January 2010 Savings

January Monthly Totals

  • Merchandise Total (before coupons): $1,984.16
  • Value of Coupons & Store Sales: $1,270.61
  • Rewards/Gift Cards/EB's Used: $601.57
  • Rewards/Gift Cards/EB's Earned: $639.48
  • Rebates: $284.97
  • Total Profit: $395.34
  • Total Cost to Me: negative $556.30
  • # of Items: 416, # of Free Items: 280

Rebates Received - this has been a crazy rebate month! This month alone, I have sent away for $284.97 worth of rebates! Wowzers. If you've never tried rebates, what are you waiting for? I went back through my records, and in 2009, I sent away for around 100 different rebates. In all that time, only three rebates were denied. One was for an oil change and the shop didn't list the type of oil on the receipt (no biggie since I needed that anyway), one was a Staples rebate that was rejected because I used my boyfriend's rewards card instead of mine (just returned the item and got my money back) and one was a Goody headband (bought the wrong one). Three duds out of 100 ain't bad.

  • $13.48 Olay Quench lotion rebate - parent's address
  • $14.98 Olay Quench lotion rebate - DBF's address
  • $19.98 Olay Quench lotion rebate - my address
  • $20 RiteAid Gift of Savings certificate - my address and DBF's address
  • $26.49 RiteAid rebates - my address and DBF's address

Got back $61.91 as a reimbursement check for some supplies I had to buy for work. I procrastinated like crazy submitting for reimbursement, and paid off the charges to my credit card last month (earning some reward points along the way). So this is almost like found money, and its going right into savings.

Speaking of savings, I hit a milestone this month. I have over $5,000 in liquid savings right now. I have NEVER had this much saved up before in my life and its an amazing feeling. I can't even tell you how good it feels to be out of credit card debt and have my car paid in full. For so many years, I was drowning in debt and felt like I'd never get out. When I first started shopping like I do, I literally couldn't afford groceries because my CC and car payments consumed so much of my income. After I paid my bills, I had about $25 - $30 to get me through until the next payday. So many people say "oh I've saved this much or that much off my grocery budget now that I use coupons" but for me, using coupons allowed me to finally have a grocery budget. It did take quite a while to get to this point, so if you're new to all this, don't give up hope. Stick with it. Before you know it, you'll be depositing rebate checks left and right and using the profit you earn on deals to buy your staples or things that don't go on sale. Thank heaven for coupons!

Between getting some great deals at the supermarket lately, converting Walgreens RR's into gift cards and a couple I got for Christmas, I'm in gift card heaven! Here's what I have:

  • $25 Borders - from Walgreens RR's
  • $25 Barnes & Noble - from Walgreens RR's - used to buy two Sookie Stackhouse books and only paid $6 cash. It was fun to splurge on these.
  • $30 Wendy's - from Walgreens RR's
  • $20 TGIF - from Walgreens RR's - used to pay for portion of DBF's birthday dinner
  • $50 Kohl's - Christmas gift from my mom - used along with the $5 Kohl's coupons I bought on ebay to get some really cheap clothes.
  • $50 Kohl's - DBF cashed in some credit card points for this one. We're going to combine these and do some clothes shopping.
  • $50 CVS - cashed in my Discover cashback bonus for a $45 gift card and got back a $5 bonus. I've had this in my drawer for at least a month or two and haven't even needed to bring it to the store yet. I'm still using up a e-gift card I bought from cvs.com (and got a $5 bonus for!) and some gift cards I got previously from Discover. I love these rewards. Basically whatever my balance at CVS is, whether that be $0.12 or $5, I'm not using my own money to pay it. I try to keep my totals low to use the gift cards as long as possible, but I don't have to sweat it either. I use my Discover card for most things I buy, so the points build up really quickly.
  • Three $25 AMC Theatres - bought these at supermarket and CVS. Whenever DBF and I feel like seeing a movie, we're set.
  • $11.24 Applebees - bought at supermarket a while ago. DBF and I treated ourselves to dinner one night and didn't quite use it up.
  • I also have $150 in iTunes gift cards that I'm selling on ebay. You can only list one gift card auction at a time, so I'm slowly selling these. I didn't pay $150 because of some deals I got on them, so I can sell them for slightly less than they're worth and still make some money.

More Profitable Meters

Less than 48 hours until the start of the last season of Lost....
Walgreens - I was hunting for the Accu-Check meters today, but only found one. The deal was good today only. Oh well
  • Accu-Chek Compact Plus Care Kit or Accu-Chek Aviva Care Kit $14.99, use $10 coupon (11/8 SS) and $5 Walgreens coupon (from Diabetes & You Mag, expires 1/31) = $5 profit
  • Wrigley's gum $1.29 - needed a filler so I could use both coupons and this was all that was around the register. I should have planned that better
  • Total was $1.37
Then separately, I bought three:
  • Bayer Contour Blood Glucose Meter $14.99, use freebie coupon (10/25 RP) and get back $10 RR = $10 profit
  • And a half gallon of milk for $1.99
I was pleasantly surprised when I spotted the blue corn Tostitos at one of the stores
  • 2 Tostitos Blue Corn chips $2 each - these didn't ring up at all, so the cashier entered them in as some random item and I had to pay tax on them
  • Walgreens raisins $1
  • Used $5 RR, total was $0.28

Bought 7 papers at Pathmark for $1.50 each. After DBF's mom's employee discount, I paid $9.41

Trying to Get a Nut to Move Your Butt!

Ahh, nothing like classy song lyrics to warm the heart and soul. ;)
Walgreens - used a raincheck from last week to get this price on the Planters
  • 10 Planters peanuts $1.99 each, used five $1 off 2 coupons (1/3 or 1/24 SS) and $1 Walgreens coupon (from Diabetes & You magazine, took off $10 automatically) = $4.90 and will submit for the $10 rebate (DBF's address) = $5.10 profit
  • Walgreens cheese stick $0.59
  • Used $5 RR, total was $0.49

At another store, I bought:

  • 6 Planters peanuts $1.99 each, used three $1 off 2 coupons (1/3 or 1/24 SS) and $1 Walgreens coupon (from Diabetes & You magazine, took off $6 automatically) = $2.94
  • Walgreens cheese stick $0.59
  • Used $2 RR, total was $1.53 *Once I buy four more cans, I'll submit for another $10 rebate (parent's address)

Separately, I bought the York peppermint patty ($0.89) and the Reese's PB cups ($0.49 with circular coupon). I'm going to send away for two coupons for free bags of Pieces candy with this rebate (one at my address, one at DBF's).

CVS

  • Dulcolax Balance (14 doses) $10.99, used $3 coupon (or 12/13 SS or $2 coupon in 1/24 SS), got back $5 EB (Limit 1) and will send away for $5 rebate = $2.01 profit
  • Oral B Indicator toothbrush $1.99, got back $1 EB (Limit 1) = $0.99 - was going to use the $1 coupon in the 1/17 P&G but cashier wouldn't let me use it. The coupon is for a different kind of Oral B brush, so I couldn't object.
  • Used $1 EB and $6 EB, total was $3.64
There's a fabulous Kohl's coupon floating around now - $5 off any purchase of anything. I bought 20 copies on ebay for $1.95 and the seller emailed me the links right away. I printed them out and then off I went. Thanks nasagreen for mentioning this coupon on the boards! What a great way to get some cheap clothes! Someone used a whole bunch of these along with the same gift card and Kohl's tracked her down, so I've been using cash or different types of payment with each that I use.

Sonoma 3/4 sleeve shirt $7.99, $2.99 after coupon - paid with cash
Sonoma shirt (blue) $12.99, $7.99 after coupon - paid with Discover card
Apt. 9 dress pants $27.99, $22.99 after coupon - paid with gift card that my mom gave me for Christmas

I love, love, love these Apt. 9 pants! I have about 5 pairs now and they are so comfortable and fit me perfectly. I have such a hard time finding pants that I like, so when I find a brand that fits well, I tend to buy a lot. I've slowly been buying these pants over the last several months. They normally go for $44 each, so I wait for a good sale/coupon/Kohl's cash deal.

I am also in love with the Sonoma brand at Kohl's. I know I sound like a commercial now, but the shirts are awesome. I really need some shirts for work, not more weekend stuff, but I couldn't resist. The blue shirt has butterflies all down the side, so cute!

Quick Trip and Another Funny Foto

CVS - DBF's card
  • Dulcolax Balance (14 doses) $10.99, used $3 coupon (or 12/13 SS or $2 coupon in 1/24 SS), got back $5 EB (Limit 1) and will send away for $5 rebate = $2.01 profit
  • Crest toothpaste $1.99, used $1 coupon (1/17 P&G) and got back $1 EB (Limit 1) = FREE/$0.01 profit
  • Used $8 EB, total was $1.12
And now another priceless family gem from the photo albums. Ummm...yeah. Where to start, where to start. Well, first of all, we live in New Jersey, not Antartica. I don't even see any snow in this photo. With the sunglare, it looks downright balmy. So I have to ask, what's up with the hat Uncle Gary? I see you're still sportin' the 'stache, so you can't be getting a facial chill.

Please note one of my other uncles is hogging the spotlight by posing through the glass door. Gotta love those suspenders and glasses. I think I found Waldo!

Cheap Veggies

Didn't buy any papers on Sunday because the paper in my area doesn't carry the RP insert anymore. I'm going to buy my copies online when they're available. I didn't buy last week's coupons yet, so I'll buy them together to save on shipping.

I emptied out Sir Piggy and took my spare change to TD Bank (formerly Commerce) to have it counted for free. I guessed that I had $11 and it added up to $10.97 (booyah!) so I got a free tip calculating card. I was hoping for something a little cooler as a prize, but I can't complain over a freebie.

Acme
  • 2 Fresh Express salads $1 each
  • Baby carrots $1 each
  • 5 Bird's Eye Steamfresh veggies $1 each, used five $0.35 coupons (1/10 SS) = $1.50 or $0.30 each *Woops! Just realized three of the ones I bought rang up as $2.99 each. Wonder if its worth taking them back...
  • 4 Perdue Short Cuts $5.99 each, BOGO sale and used four $0.75 coupons (1/10 RP) = $5.98 or $1.49 each - these are really good! I think I may go back for some more.
  • Half gallon of milk $2.09 - we accidentally dropped this in the garage and the container split. When I brought it upstairs, I totally forgot to put it in the fridge, and by the time I realized it, I had spilled milk all over my carpet and nice warm milk. Yuck.
  • Total was $18.54
Walgreens - bought these on Saturday
  • 8 Planters nuts $1.99 each, used three $2 off 2 coupons and $1 off 2 coupon (1/3 or 1/24 SS) and $1 Walgreens coupon (from Diabetes & You magazine, took off $8 automatically) = $0.92
  • Along with the two I bought the other day, I can now submit for the $10 rebate = $8.10 profit

CVS - bought on Saturday and although the deals are still good now, the $5 coupon expired Saturday.

  • 2 Oust Surface Disinfectant & Air Sanitizers $3.99 each, used BOGO coupon (1/3 SS) and got back $6 EB ($3 each, monthly deal, Limit 6) = $2.01 profit
  • 2 Cottonelle Fresh Moist Wipes Combo Packs (84 ct) $5.98 each, used two $0.50 coupon (or 12/13 SS) and got back $6 EB ($3 each, monthly deal until 2/20, Limit 6) = $4.96 or $2.48
  • Stamps $8.80
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon, $6 EB and $8 EB, total was $5.21, got back $1 EB for using my green tag

I'm going to use these two Oust plus some I bought previously to submit for the $5 SC Johnson rebate. A couple folks have questioned me on this, but Oust is a SC Johnson item, so it will qualify. I've now maxed out this rebate (limit three per address) at my address, my parent's address and my boyfriend's address. Most of the items I bought for it were moneymakers, so this was a really fun rebate to do.

Then we bought 2 sodas on DBF's card - total was $3.40. Paid with a $3 EB and a gift card. DBF and I went to see The Book of Eli (paid with an AMC gift card I had) and buying sodas here was so much cheaper than getting anything at the snack bar.

I also cashed in some RR's on Sunday and didn't feel like taking a picture. Got some popping corn, 2 cans of Pringles, a half gallon of milk and some raisins. Used a $2 RR and $5 RR, total was $1.98.

My high-quality Craig DVD player died on me this weekend. It wouldn't turn on no matter what we did, so after my boyfriend took it apart to rescue the Alias DVD trapped inside, I bought a new one at Best Buy, used $14.31 on gift cards I had and paid $30 OOP. I have horrible luck with DVD players for some reason.

Friday Funny Fotos

Back in September after my grandmother passed away, my sister, dad and I went through some of my grandparents' family photos. Some I'd never seen before and others brought back great memories. Our family on a whole is pretty goofy, so we had a lot of laughs sorting through them. Here are a couple of my favorites.
This is my grandfather. Why he's touching his toes, I have no idea. Why anyone thought to preserve this moment in time, I especially have no idea.
Umm, yeah. I'm not sure what's worse, the 'stache my uncle's sporting or those grapes. Why on earth did my aunt think holding up a pound of grapes would add to photo? On a sidenote, this aunt is now totally the black sheep of the family and I bet we could trace it all back to this unfortunate fruit incident.
This photo, oh this photo. It looks innocent enough at first glance. But on closer examination, my aunt in the green dress is looking pretty glum. In fact, she looks kinda pissed off! The baby looks downright perturbed and my aunt on the left-hand side of the photo looks bored. What on earth was the photographer holding up to get them to smile? "Broccoli for dinner kids, smile!" My dad is a veggie lover, which is probably why he's the only one grinning in this shot. "Yeah for sprouts!" And no, that's not a smudge on the photo. The girl in the back has an honest to goodness black eye. What a charming family moment.

I've Never Been so Happy To See Empty Shelves!

Today I went hounding for rainchecks! I was able to snag these three, which will let me do the Planters deal and rebate three times at Walgreens. Two of the managers were awesome - one wrote the raincheck as limit 10 and the other didn't even put down a limit. At the third store, the manager wrote down limit 4, which is fine because I have a raincheck for four from yesterday, which combined with the two cans I bought today puts me at my 10 for that rebate.
In case you missed it, here are the details. Thanks again to Mississippi for posting this deal in the first place!
  • Planters Peanuts (12 oz) $1.99 each, buy ten and use five $1 off 2 coupons (12/13 SS) and $1 WAG coupon (from Diabetes & You magazine, found near Pharmacy, will take off $1 automatically for each that you buy) = $4.90 and submit for $10 rebate = $5.10 profit

One store I went to was totally out of the cocktail nuts, so I asked for a raincheck. The lady gave me a look and then sauntered over to the snack aisle to check that they were really out. She then disappeared behind the manager's door and reemerged a couple minutes later with the two cans above. I thanked her and then asked if I could get a raincheck for a couple more. She said - no, not while we have some in the store. Well, umm, since you have them locked up in your office, they're not exactly available for purchase, are they? Whatever, Attitudey-Judy!

Walgreens
  • 3 Capri Suns - two for $6 and third was $3.49, got back $2 RR (monthly deal WYB 2) = $7.49
  • Used three $3 RR's, total was $1.16 - these now finish out the $20 Kraft rebate I've been working towards (WYB 10 crackers, 5 Easy Macs and 5 Kraft beverages)
Then I bought:

  • 2 Planters Peanuts (12 oz) $1.99 each, used $1 off 2 coupon (12/13 SS) and $1 WAG coupon (from Diabetes & You magazine, found near Pharmacy, took off $2 automatically) = $0.98

More of the Same, But its Still Fun

Walgreens - got a raincheck for 4 Planters nuts at $1.99 each. One of my online buddies is sending me some $1 off 2 coupons so I want to be set just in case they don't get here before Saturday. I posted the moneymaker deal on these here.

Finishing out Some Deals

UPDATE on the $10 J&J rebate - looks like it might be working with coupons afterall! I think I might send in the stuff and then if it gets denied, I'll return it all then.

Be sure to look out for tearpad CVS coupons around the store. You give the coupon to the cashier on one of your orders, they scan it and you're done. You'll get back 4% on CVS/pharmacy brand items from 1/17 - 3/15. It says it doesn't apply to EB purchases, so it probably won't count towards the CVS items that are part of the monthly deals/bonus packs.

CVS - my card
  • 2 Oust Surface Disinfectant & Air Sanitizers $3.99 each, used BOGO coupon (1/3 SS) and got back $6 EB ($3 each, monthly deal, Limit 6) = $2.01 profit
  • Soy Joy $6, got back $6 EB (monthly deal until 2/20, Limit 6) = FREE *Stupid me, I had already maxed out this deal on my card so I didn't get any EB's. I returned it later on at another store and got back $6 on a money card.
  • Renpure Organics conditioner $6.99, will submit for TMF (form on bottle) = FREE
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon, $1 EB and $10 EB, total was $1.73

At another store, I bought:

  • Dawn Hand Renewal soap $0.96, used $1 coupon (Home Made Simple home mailer) = FREE
  • Renpure Organics conditioner $6.99, will submit for TMF at DBF's address (form on bottle) = FREE
  • Pepsi 2-liter bottle $1.25 - finished out the Pepsi/Frito deal on this card, got back $10 EB
  • 2 Cottonelle Fresh Moist Wipes Combo Packs (84 ct) $5.98 each, used two $0.50 coupon (or 12/13 SS) and got back $6 EB (monthly deal until 2/20, Limit 6) = $4.96 or $2.48 each
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon, $6 EB and $6 EB, total was $2.69

Walgreens - did this transaction twice

  • Bayer Breeze 2 Blood Glucose Meter $14.99, used freebie coupon (10/25 RP) and got back $5 RR = $5 profit
  • Bayer Contour Blood Glucose Meter $14.99, use freebie coupon (10/25 RP) and get back $5 RR = $5 profit
  • Got back $3 RR for buying two Bayer items together, $13 overall profit

Then I bought:

  • Accu-Check Aviva Care Kit $9.99, used $10 coupon (11/8 SS) and $5 WAG coupon (Diabetes & You magazine, found near Pharmacy) = $5.01 profit *Bought the wrong meter and the WAG coupon beeped, but the cashier pushed it through anyway
  • 2 Naked Juices $3.99 each - these finish out the buy 10, get $10 rebate I started a couple weeks ago.
  • Borders $25 gift card
  • 2 Jergens Ultra Healing lotion (12.5 oz) $4.29 each, used $3 off 2 coupon (12/6 SS) and got back $5 RR = $0.58
  • 2 Reese's hearts $0.79 and $0.71 - my total was too low to use the $0.50 circular coupon
  • Used $5 RR, $5 RR, $5 RR, $10 RR and $10 RR, total was $0.76

I've been trying to figure out a way to get books 9 and 10 of the Sookie Stackhouse books, so I used the RR's to get the Borders gift card. Free books!

Enough Goodies for Another Coors Rebate

CVS - DBF's card
  • 2 Tostitos $3.50 each, used $1 off 2 coupon (Easy Solutions booklet found at A&P or Pathmark) = $6 or $3 each
  • 2 Oust Surface Disinfectant & Air Sanitizers $3.99 each, used BOGO coupon (1/3 SS) and got back $6 EB ($3 each, monthly deal, Limit 6) = $2.01 profit
  • Soy Joy $6, got back $6 EB (monthly deal, Limit 6) = FREE
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon, $3 EB and $6 EB, total was $1.39
  • Now I have $7 towards the $20 EB for the Pepsi deal on this card
At another store I bought:
  • 4 Pepsi 2-liters $1.25 each
  • 2 Tostitos $3.50 each, used $1 off 2 coupon (Easy Solutions booklet found at A&P or Pathmark) = $6 or $3 each
  • 2 Oust Surface Disinfectant & Air Sanitizers $3.99 each, used BOGO coupon (1/3 SS) and got back $6 EB ($3 each, monthly deal, Limit 6) = $2.01 profit
  • Sprite (12 oz I think) $1.69 - I wasn't feeling so hot today so I bought this to settle my stomach. Isn't it crazy that this cost more than a 2-liter bottle? But I wasn't about to sit at my desk chugging a 2 liter! lol
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon, $3 EB and $6 EB, total was $3.47
  • Now I have...(wait for it) $19 towards the Pepsi deal. D'OH! If I'd just bought one more bottle and used a $1 off 5 coupon, I would have been fine. Sigh. I'll pick up another one later this week to top off this deal.

Then I set about spending some of those RR's. FYI - at WAG's, you can buy any variety of Tostitos, but only the restaurant style count at CVS.

  • Accu-Check Aviva Care Kit $9.99, used $10 coupon (adjusted to $9.99, 11/8 SS) and $5 WAG coupon (Diabetes & You magazine, found near Pharmacy) = $5 profit
  • 4 Tostitos $2.50 each, used two $1 off 2 coupons (Easy Solutions booklet found at A&P or Pathmark) = $8 or $2 each
  • 8 Pepsi 2-liters $1.25 each, used two $1 off 5 coupons (Easy Solutions booklet found at A&P or Pathmark) = $8 or $1 each - totally wasn't thinking and gave the cashier two of these coupons even though I only bought 8 bottles, but they worked!
  • Tried to use some RR's but they beeped. The cashier was super nice and since he didn't even bat an eyelash over the Accu-Check overage, I didn't push it. Total was $11.70 and I got back $10 RR for spending $20 on Pepsi products

I will submit this receipt plus the CVS ones for the $10 Coors rebate (DBF's address). I only have to spend $30 to qualify for the rebate, so it won't matter that I'm $1 short for my CVS EB's.

Final Trip for the Day

  • Accu-Check Aviva Care Kit $9.99, used $10 coupon (11/8 SS) and $5 WAG coupon (Diabetes & You magazine, found near Pharmacy) = $5.01 profit
  • 2 Jergens Ultra Healing lotion (12.5 oz) $4.29 each, used $3 off 2 coupon (12/6 SS) and got back $5 RR = $0.58 *With the overage from the Accu-Check, this was a moneymaker for me
  • 5 Kraft Easy Mac single cups $1 each - will use these along with the Chips Ahoy I bought a couple weeks back towards a $20 Kraft rebate (WYB 10 cookies/crackers, 5 Easy Mac cups and 5 Kraft beverages). I just have to pick up the beverages and I'll be good to go. The Chips Ahoy were free after RR and the Easy Mac cups were basically free since paid for them with Accu-Check overage and Bayer RR's, which were a pure profit. I'll use some more Bayer RR's to pick up the beverages, so I'm basically turning RR's into cash and picking up some goodies to donate to the food pantry along the way. Gotta love that! The rebate form was sent to me by a good buddy, but I think you can find the forms in supermarkets. Thank you to pubbler for posting about it in the first place!
  • Used $5 RR, total was $1.17

Pepsi, Pepsi and More Pepsi

CVS
  • 3 Pepsi 12-packs $10 and 8 Pepsi 2-liter bottles four for $5 or $1.25 each, used two $1 off 5 bottles coupons (Easy Solutions booklet found at A&P or Pathmark) = $20 and got back $10 EB (WYB $20 worth of PepsiCo Products - page 2 of circular) = $10 total
  • Newspaper $2 - I thought there was a RP in this week's paper so I only bought one copy, figuring I'd buy the rest of my inserts online. Duh! I don't feel like going back out, so I may just get them online anyway.
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon, $1 EB, $2 EB, $6 EB and $6 EB, total was $1.08

There's some debate about whether the Pepsi deals at CVS this week are two separate deals. On the front page of the circular, there's a "buy 6 cases of Pepsi for $20, get back $10 EB Limit 2" deal (event code 10412508) and on page 2, there's a "buy $20 worth of PepsiCo products on this page, get back $10 EB Limit 2" deal (event code 10430691). What do you think? Has you tried both?

Walgreens

  • 5 Pepsi 12 packs $3 each - was expecting these to be more expensive. This was the price on a circular on iheartwags for a while, then that circular was replaced with another that listed these as three for $12. What do your circulars say?
  • 5 Pepsi 2-liters $1.25 each, used $1 off 5 bottles coupon (Easy Solutions booklet found at A&P or Pathmark) - I realized later that I'd bought a fifth bottle so I could use the coupon, even though I was at $20 without it. That was silly since I paid $0.25 after the coupon for it. That's what happens when I think up scenarios on the fly.
  • Got back $10 RR for spending $20 on qualifying PepsiCo products
  • Used $3 RR, $5 RR and $5 RR, total was $3.74

Now that I've spent $30 in Pepsi items, I'm going to send away for the $10 Coors rebate. There are four different rebates available on that link, so depending on where you live, the deal might be different for you.

I also did some CVS shopping on Saturday and didn't get a chance to post until now. I stole this scenario from Queen, but now I'm rethinking sending in for it based on her recent post about the J&J rebate. I might just return the stuff.

CVS

  • 3 Aveeno lotions $3.49 each, used three $2 coupons (1/10 SS) = $1.49 each
  • Lubriderm lotion $5.49, used $2 coupon (1/10 SS) = $3.49
  • 2 Clean and Clear face wipes $5.99 each, BOGO 50% off sale, used two $2 coupons (1/10 SS) = $4.98
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon, $1 EB, total was $2.80, got back $1 EB for green bag tag

Second trip - saw a tag on the Nature's Bounty today that says they're BOGO until sometime in February! The EB deal is a bonus pack deal, so that's good for a while too. So no worries if you haven't done this yet, you still have plenty of time.

  • 2 Nature's Bounty Fish Oil Vitamins (all this store had) $10.49 each, BOGO sale and used two $5 coupons and got back $3 EB (WYB 2, Limit 6) = $2.51 profit
  • Soy Joy $6, got back $6 EB (Monthly deal, limit 6) = FREE
  • Aveeno lotion $3.49, used $2 coupon (1/10 SS) = $1.49
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon, total was $3.16

Third trip

  • 2 Nature's Bounty Vitamin-D $8.49 each, BOGO sale and used two $5 coupons and got back $3 EB (WYB 2, Limit 6) = $4.51 profit
  • Soy Joy $6, got back $6 EB (Monthly deal, limit 6) = FREE
  • Aveeno lotion $3.49, used $2 coupon (1/10 SS) = $1.49
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon, total was $1.16

I've now bought $30 worth of items for the $10 J&J rebate (or 1/10 SS), but I'm not sure what I'll do about that.

Final trip

  • 2 Nature's Bounty Your Life Multi-vitamins (90 ct) $9.99 each, BOGO sale and used two $5 coupons and got back $3 EB (WYB 2, Limit 6) = $3.01 profit
  • Soy Joy $6, got back $6 EB (Monthly deal, limit 6) = FREE
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon, total was $0.99
Walgreens
  • Bayer Contour Blood Glucose Meter $14.99, use freebie coupon (10/25 RP) and get back $5 RR = $5 profit

At another store I bought two together:

  • Bayer Breeze 2 Blood Glucose Meter $14.99, used freebie coupon (10/25 RP) and got back $5 RR = $5 profit
  • Bayer Contour Blood Glucose Meter $14.99, use freebie coupon (10/25 RP) and get back $5 RR = $5 profit
  • Got back $3 RR for buying two Bayer items together, $13 overall profit
One of DBF's Christmas presents was a mandolin slicer and he made some deeee-licious homemade potato chips today.

We sprinkled some parmesan cheese on these ones. Heaven on a plate I tell you!

My Dream Cashier

OH NO! The $5 off $20 coupon was taken offline today. Did anyone happen to save an electronic copy? I would be forever grateful if you could send it to me! (FOUND IT!) See below...
CVS - had the nicest cashier today. On my first order, she hit some button that showed my real total so the $5 coupon wouldn't scan. Without me even saying a peep, she voided the order and re-rang everything and then DIDN'T hit that button so everything worked. How awesome is that? I did both transactions with her back to back without a problem.
  • 2 Nature's Bounty Your Life Multi-vitamins (90 ct) $9.99 each, BOGO sale and used two $5 coupons (see below) and got back $3 EB (WYB 2, Limit at least 4!) = $3.01 profit
  • Soy Joy $6, got back $6 EB (Monthly deal, limit 6) = FREE
  • 3 Rolls wrapping paper - 90% off so $0.59 each for two and $0.69 for third
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon and $2 EB I got for doing a survey (since I didn't spend anything to get this, I'm adding this to my profits), total was $0.94, overall profit = $8.06

Repeated minus the wrapping paper and $2 EB, total was $0.99, overall profit = $8.01

The $5 off $20 coupon has been taken offline, but here's a link to a PDF copy of it.

I've now bought 6 bottles of vitamins on this card and it still doesn't say limit reached. So the limit is at least four! UPDATE (thanks Jenn Mc!) The limit is six. :)

Here's how to get the $5 coupons: you enter in the codes listed here for points and then you can redeem 500 points for a $5 coupon.

The BOGO sale is on all the Nature's Bounty vitamins (I think), but the EB deal is only on the Fish Oil or Vitamin D Bonus (120 count) or the ones I bought.

  • Ascend Recycled Peel-to-Seal No. 10 Envelopes (50 count) $3.99, get back $4 in MaxPerks Bonus Rewards (Limit 3) = FREE

Looks like the MaxPerks rewards are Office Max money, similar to Staples rewards. Their website says:

"Bonus Rewards for these offers, along with any other Bonus Rewards a Member may have earned during the same period, will be issued in the form of a reward card redeemable toward future purchases. Reward card expires 90 days from date of issuance except for reward cards for FL Members, which expire 1 year from date of issuance."

Do you think that means a gift card? I've never done this, so I'm not sure.

You can also purchase these online and if you spend $50, you get free shipping (go through ebates for even more rewards). You can order online or sign up for the MaxPerks card here. You'll receive the MaxPerks rewards in February.

UPDATE from Dreaming of Deals - thanks so much for sharing this helpful info!!

"You won't get a gift card - you will get "credit" to your Rewards account. You'll get an email that says how much of a credit you have and when it expires. For example, I bought 3 1/2 reams of paper last fall and had a $60 Reward coming that I had to use by this March.

The email will have a pin number that you need to enter if you order online, or you just print off your reward certificate and bring it to the store to use after it shows up in your account.

2 things - they are really good about crediting you if your rewards don't show up for some reason...I ordered my paper on the last day of the deal and by the time it shipped, the order was showing a date 3 days later. Luckily I had saved my original email confirmation giving the date I ordered (save ALL your emails if you order online, you may need them) but it took more than a week for the rewards to finally post.

Also, watch the expiration - you only get 3 months to use the reward."

Conga Line of Knee Highs

CVS - my card
  • Terminator Salvation DVD $24.99
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon, $18 EB, total was $3.39, got back $1 EB for using my green tag

Let me tell you, I have had such a brain fart buying movies lately. I bought Terminator at Best Buy last week using a gift card. It wasn't until I got home and had totally unwrapped the DVD that I realized it wasn't the movie, it was a cartoon series about Terminator. Grr. I sold that online since it was opened and I couldn't return it. The week before that, I picked up The Hangover at Best Buy and realized when I got home that it was a Blu-Ray copy. Sigh. At least I hadn't opened that one. By the time I went back that night to exchange it, the store was totally wiped out. DBF found a copy at Walmart that weekend.

DBF's card
  • 3 Garnier Nutritioniste Cleansing Cloths $5.99 each, used three $1 coupons (10/11 or 12/6 RP) and got back $5 EB for buying $15 worth (Limit 1) = $9.97 or $3.32 each, $4.97 or $1.65 each when you count in the $5 off $20 coupon. I needed the milk anyway, so I would have bought that regardless.
  • Half gallon milk $1.89
  • Crystal Light individual size $0.50
  • Used $5 off $20 coupon and $12 EB, total was $1.34
Walgreens - there are probably tons of ways to do this rebate, but here's what I did. I asked the cashier to give me a total after she rang up my qualifying items to be sure I'd bought at least $30. With the BOGO 50% off sale, it was hard to keep track as I was shopping. The receipt listed all the BOGO 50% off discounts at the bottom of the receipt (instead of discounting the price of the items), so it might be possible to squeek by with $30 of items based just on regular prices. I'm not sure if the J&J folks would catch that. I wasn't expecting the receipt to do this, so I bought $30 worth after sale prices.
  • 2 Clean & Clear makeup removing wipes $5.99 each, used two $2 coupon (or also here) = $3.99 each
  • Clean & Clear foaming cleanser $4.79, used $2 coupon or also here = $2.79
  • Lubriderm lotion $3.99, used $2 coupon = $1.99 *Forgot to use the $1 WAG coupon from the Diabetes & You magazine (found near Pharmacy)
  • Aveeno Cream Cleanser $7.29, used $2 coupon = $5.29
  • Aveeno lotion $2.99, used $2 coupon = $0.99
  • RoC Cleanser $9.99 (cheapest I could find), used $3 coupon = $6.99
  • Now for the discounts. It took off $3.65 for the Aveeno cleanser, $3 for the Clean & Clear wipes and $2 for the Lubriderm lotion. Figure that one out, I dare you! Walgreens math is unlike any other math on this planet. So all in all, I paid $17.38 OOP for these items and I'll get back $10 for the rebate. Since I used RR's to pay and those RR's were pure profit, I don't mind that this rebate wasn't a moneymaker.
  • $10 TGIF gift card
  • 4 Ravinia Knee Highs $0.25 each
  • The register was beeping on my last coupon, so I moved one of my Naked juices to this transaction - $3.49.
  • Used three $5 RR's and two $6 RR's, total was $4.14

After I paid, I realized I wouldn't be able to submit this bottle of juice for the Naked rebate because I needed the receipt for the J&J rebate. Duh! I was thinking about what to do and realized one of the bottles expired in Dec 09, so I returned it at another store (got back cash). Problem solved!

Transaction 2

  • 4 Naked Juices (15.2 oz) $3.49 each, used two $1 coupons = $11.96
  • Ravinia Knee Highs $0.25
  • Used $5 RR and $6 RR, total was $1.21

Second store - returned the juice and then bought:

  • 4 Naked Juices (15.2 oz) $3.49 each = $13.96
  • Ravinia Knee Highs $0.25
  • $15 Wendy's gift card
  • Used $3 RR and five $5 RR's, total was $1.21

I need to buy two more juices, and then I'll submit for this $10 rebate. I wouldn't normally do this rebate since its not free or a moneymaker, but since I have RR's to burn, its a nice way to turn some of them into cash. Thank you pubbler for telling me about this rebate! :)

Now all of my RR's are used up. That happened a lot faster than I had anticipated, but its fine with me. I converted $50 in RR's into $50 in gift cards ($20 at TGIF and $30 at Wendy's) and I'll be getting back $22 in rebates ($10 J&J, $2 Lypsyl and $10 Naked Juice). I bought multi-vitamins, which I don't see freebie deals on very often, a couple of books, some stuff for around the house, some quick dinners and cat treats, which I was totally out of. And because I used RR's that were pure profit, all of this was free. Gotta love that!

My second set of Bayer coupons are on their way, and I'll buy more meters this week so that I'll be set with RR's for the Pepsi deal next week. Speaking of which...
If you have an A&P or Pathmark in your area, its worth your while to stop in and pick up some of these free booklets.
Looks what's inside! $1 off five 2 liter bottles of Pepsi and $1 off 2 bags of Lays, Doritos or Tostitos. These are manufacturer's coupons, so you'll be able to use them at Walgreens. HUGE thank you to saphira for posting about these!
