Much to my surprise, guess what's growing in the little flower garden?  Flowers!  When I planted them, it was super hot and I hurriedly scattered the seeds around and smushed them into the dirt a bit.  I didn't have high hopes.
Now I could just remember what it is that I planted here....
And if I'd bought enough seeds to fully spread around the garden.  Got a big old empty spot there, don't I?  I'm thinking next year I'm going to get some kind of shrub for this space instead of trying to do flowers.  Its just too large for me to handle with flowers.  I need something low maintenance.

If you're looking for easy, low maintenance flowers, check out Lowes's clearance garden section. Look for just about any perrenials. Lillies are low maintenance and will come back year after year. Hostas are super easy and can quickly fill in that gap in your garden.

Are they deer proof? We have so many deer in this area, I really don't want to buy anything that they'll eat. I was thinking of something big too, so I could just plant one or two things in that space.

I think hydrangea shrubs would look beautiful in that area but I don't know how much sun you get there (I planted all of mine on the northern side and they grow beautifully) + you'd have to surround with some lavender plants to keep the deer @ bay. I wish you lived closer as I'd share my perennials w/you!!! I have tons of hydrangeas as I split them often. I love perennials - black eyed susans are beautiful too. Here's a gardening tip - deer & rabbits kept be kept @ bay w/Milorganite (natural fertilizer). You can find it at Lowes and the stuff really stinks (smells) but works! It has to be reapplied after rain though. Sorry to ramble, I am a bit of a gardening geek LOL.

Maybe try some kind of evergreen shrub a couple of feet from the house & then do a row or two of lower flowers in front for color:-) It looks like you put a lot of work into it when you 'layer'...

That's an idea Elizabeth, thanks!

Sheila,
Its pretty much full sun in that spot all day long. Thanks for the tips! Lavender would be really nice if it can tolerate the sun.
