I'm Not a Happy Camper

Ok, so here's what happened. I saw an offer on stamps.com for a FREE 30 day trial of their products. Included in the free trial was a FREE postage scale. I signed up and sent away for my scale. I was a little ticked after I ordered because I had to pay shipping on the scale, even though I could have SWORN I read somewhere on the website that there was free shipping. I wanted to go back and check, but my order had already gone through. But whatever, the shipping was $13 and a postage scale would cost me much more than that anyway. So I ordered, got my scale.

Just now I called the Customer Service at stamps.com to cancel my account (I'm still within the free trial period). That was all fine and dandy. Then she mentions to me - oh, by the way, your postage scale WON'T work without the stamps.com software and since you are cancelling your account, the software will no longer work." WTF?!?! That was the whole purpose of me signing up in the first place! I told her this and she offered to extend my free trial period for another couple weeks. What good that would do I don't know since I'd still have to cancel down the road. She then tells me I could have received a larger free scale if I'd gone past the trial period. Holy false advertising! I am so annoyed. Now I'm out $13 and have a useless scale on my hands. Thanks a lot stamps.com (not!).

Aww, that is horrible! I hate companies that participate in such luring claims.

I nearly sent off for this too, as I thought the postage scale would be great. But I kept thinking something wasn't right, glad I didn't now. So sorry for your trouble. You should write to BBB about this and complain.

Call and ask to speak to a customer service manager. Tell them that you expect your 13.00 to be refunded because you can not use the product and im sure you cant return it. All they can say is NO but I used to work in a call center and the reps cant OK alot of things that the managers can get by with. I bet you could get your money back if you complained enough.

I hate when places do this to people. I have to thank you for sharing your story though. I thought about signing up as I could really use a postage scale as well, but I just hadn't gotten around to it yet. Thanks for letting us know about this scam

Is it one of those digital scales that automatically inputs the weight online, when you place an item on it. I would just ship through USPS website, use the scale to weigh my item & manually input the weight. USPS gives you a reduced shipping weight on Priority mail too. HTH

Thanks all for the support. I'm very ticked, but I really just don't feel like calling and complaining again. Sigh. Live and learn I guess.
