Ahh, the Sweet Smell of Burning Baked Goods...

So tonight I decided I'd bake up some sugar cookies, Betty Crocker cookie mix-style. I mixed up the butter, egg and cookie mix, carefully shaped them into balls and plunked them on my cookie sheet. Sounds simple, huh? Oh don't worry, I'm sure I can mess it up! :)
7-9 minutes later, this is what emerged from my horribly unevenly heated oven (can't possibly be the chef's fault after all!).

Notice if you will, the massive middle cookie. If I'd left this in the oven one minute longer, they all would have combined! And they look more like pancakes than cookies. I feel like I should flip 'em and throw some maple syrup on top.
How about a closeup on the perfectly blackened edges? That's just what I like to see on a cookie.
The top of this one isn't even fully cooked! Sigh. Thank goodness DBF cooks for me!

The oven in my apartment used to do the same thing! That sucks, I'm sorry they didn't come out as planned.

I'm sorry it didn't come out right, but don't feel bad, we've all been there :) I burned food on more than one ocasion when I would forget to time something and get too involved playing with my furbabies.

Our last batch of sugar cookies did the same thing! Have a cookie/biscuit cutter? Just cut away those burnt edges and enjoy!

Ha! I did this once and I ranted and raved about my horrible oven (which is horrible by the way, I feel your pain). After complaining enough, I noticed I had never switched the oven from PRE-heat to BAKE! Oy! I was quiet after that! LOL! Don't give up!
Warmth, Tracey C.

LMAO, I've found my cooking twin! That happens to my cookies a lot. Must be crappy apartment ovens...or something :P

This happened to me too, and I have a brandy (sorta) new oven, so the temp is right. It's those darn cookie sheets. I know it say ungreased baking sheet, but I found that it happened less when I put some Pam on it before putting the cookies on it. Also, if is says cook for 7-9 minutes....cook it for 7 minutes. It's all good...it happens to all of us :) at least me :)

My oven is crazy, too! I'm sorry they didn't turn out better.

Hi, Suzanne. Sorry about the cookies. I highly recommend Wilton insulated cookies pans and a Silpat mat.

To cheer you up, I'm giving you the lemonade award. Have a great weekend!

I have the same results when I use PAM. It's like the cookie dough actually fries in the oil. Not good.
I now use parchment paper (we had some great $1.25 coupons for Reynolds not too long ago) and a good insulated cookie sheet. It does make all the difference in the world, I promise you.
