30 G's

Gatorade that is!  Snagged a great deal on these at Rite Aid -

  • 15 Gatorade Bottles (32 oz) $1 each, got back $5 UP (monthly UP, WYB $15, Limit ?) and two $1 UP's ($1 UP WYB 5 bottles, Limit 2, weekly deal) = $8 or $0.53 each
  • Helping Hand Utility Box (below) $4.24 (clearanced from $8.49), got back $4 UP (Limit ?) = $0.24
  • Used $18 in UP's, total was $1.33
I'll use the Gatorade for a $10 Heineken NBPR rebate on $10.01 of nonalcoholic beverages (HKNNA040) = $2 profit  Picked up another 15 bottles on DBF's card and I'll do a second rebate there as well.
Stop & Shop
  • Poland Spring Case of Water $3.99 + 6 pack $2.19, will use towards $5 Busch NBPR rebate on $5.01 of water (offer #32634) = $1.18 or $0.03 a bottle
  • Barilla Tortellini $4.29
  • 2 Softsoap Hand Soaps $1 each, used $0.40 homemailer coupon (got when I had trouble with a Colgate rebate) = $1.20
  • Used $10 catalina, total was $1.67

S&S

  • 6 Perdue Chicken Cutlets $3.99 each, BOGO sale and used two $1 off 2 peelie coupons, will use towards a $10 Pyramid Ale NBPR rebate = FREE/$0.03 profit
  • Milky Way $0.75
  • Used $10 catalina, total was $0.78

ShopRite - you guessed it, more chicken!  DBF and I love these cutlets for quick dinners

  • 3 Perdue Chicken Cutlets $2.99 each = $8.97
  • Daisy Sour Cream $1.50
  • Total was $10.47
Will use towards $9 Magic Hat Summer Scene NBPR rebate on $9.01 of various stuff (no store brands in NY)

How's this for good coupon karma?  Last week, I was at ShopRite and the woman ahead of me at self checkout stopped to gab with a friend after checking out.  As I started ringing up my stuff, she says "oh my coupons," reaches over and grabs the six or seven catalinas that were on the machine.  Now, I'm almost positive I saw the coupons printing after I started ringing up my stuff but I wasn't sure, so I didn't say anything (but you better believe I was fuming).  Today at self checkout, the woman ahead of me left her long string of coupons behind and walked away.  I got those, plus the ones that printed on my order!  Here's what I got: $1 off 2 paper towels, $1 off fabric softener, $1 off 3 bottled juices, $1 off 2 household cleaning items, $1 off 6 yogurts, $1 off appy/deli purchase of $5+ and $1 off $5 of produce.  The woman's customers were a little different - $1 off 2 bath tissue, $1 off 2 facial tissue, $1 off 2 cereal, $1 off 1 bottled juice, $1 off frozen pizza and a couple repeats.

Now I remember why I don't take pictures of stuff on the floor!
Ah, there we go!

My Sunday Shopping and Ponderings

Rite Aid
  • Gillette Venus & Olay Razor $7.99 ($9.99 reg price, 20% discount) used $4 coupon (6/17 SS) and got back $4 UP (Limit 2) = FREE/$0.01 profit
  • 2 Huggies Little Mover Jumbo Pack Diapers $9.99 each ($12.49 reg price, 20% discount), used two $2 coupons (7/8 SS *These beeped) and got back two $5 UP's (Limit 2) = $5.98 or $2.99 each
  • Newspaper $2
  • Used two $5 UP's and $10 UP, total was $3.44
I bought the diapers for a friend at work that just had the cutest little baby girl.  She's not in size three's yet but I'm sure she will be soon!
When was the last time you saw an insert Coke coupon like this?  I don't ever remembering seeing one before!

I also stopped by CVS to get my $4 off $20 coupon from the scanner and to see what else printed.  I got a $5 off $15 beauty purchase, $3 off Gillette Fusion cartridges and some other random ones.  I'm going to have to work on some scenarios to get the most bang for my buck with this $4/$20 coupon.  Anyone have any ideas?

Couple of notes from SD - buying only Pepsi 2 liters ($0.77) is working towards the Revlon and Pepsi deal at CVS - buy $15 of Revlon cosmetics and Pepsi (2 liters at $0.77 each or 8 pack of 12 oz bottles at $3 each).and get $5 EB (Limit 1).  If your store is including Dr. Pepper in this sale (scan one at the red coupon machine), there's a $1 off 2 coupon in the 6/24 SS to make it a little sweeter.

Keep a lookout for a red TMF peelies on Marc Anthony Easy-Lites hair highlightener thingies at Rite Aid.  They're on sale for $5.99 with a $2 UP (Limit 2) so $2 profit with the rebate.  I couldn't find anything Marc Anthony at my RA but I'll check another store for them.  They're supposed to be in a box, not a bottle.

If you don't have any rebates to trade but are interested in the ones I have, never to fear.  Cash is always king.  Send me 10% of the rebate's value (ie. $1 for a $10 rebate, $0.50 for a $5 one) plus $0.45 for a stamp via Paypal and the rebate is all yours.

If you're new to NBPR rebates or heard the term floating around but never knew what it meant (I did that for a couple years!), let me run this down for you.  NBPR stands for "no beer purchase required" meaning that if you live in one of the NBPR states, you don't need to purchase beer to qualify for the rebate.  The valid states vary a bit from rebate to rebate.  If you look on ebay for "NBPR" or "beer rebates" you'll find tons of various forms.  Here are a couple I have right now: Heineken $10 off $10.01 of fresh/prepared foods (with purchase of Heineken), Smirnoff $4 off $4.01 frozen dinners (with purchase of Smirnoff),  Busch $5 off $5.01 of water, ice, coolers or salty snacks (with purchase of Busch).  But here's the fun part - since I live in NY, I don't need to purchase the beer to qualify for these rebates!  So they become $10 off $10.01 of fresh food, $4 off a $4.01 frozen dinner, $5 off $5.01 of water (and so on).

These rebates are a wonderful way to buy groceries for free or cheap.  And they're often very open-ended, so you can usually purchase whatever brands you like.  Now that I've moved to NY, I'm able to find a lot of these rebates in my grocery stores (never found them in Jersey), but you can buy them on ebay or trade for them here or other places.

Helpful Tips
  • Make sure to note the rebate ID number (ie. HKNNA040) so when you get your check, you'll know what its for (they write this # on the check).
  • Always make a copy of your documentation (receipt, completed rebate form, UPC's if required) before mailing.
  • Most rebates don't require the UPC's of the items, just the rebate form and the receipt(s).  Pabst rebates and the printable Pyramid Ale rebates are the exceptions to this rule.
  • Always read the fine print.  Some rebates require that your purchases be made all on one receipt, some just require the same day.

Saturday Shopping

I have done so much shopping this week!  I'm finally done and looking forward to a relaxing Sunday tomorrow.  I've got a huge stack of rebate forms to tackle.
Price Chopper

  • 4 Hillshire Farms Sausages $2.50 each, used two $1 off 2 tearpad coupons + doublers = $6 or $1.50 each
  • 3 Prima Familia Meatballs $5.19 each, used raincheck from last week or the week before to get them BOG2 free = $5.19 for three or $1.73 each
  • PC Frozen Bagels $1 with coupon
  • 2 PC Orange Juices $2.50 each, used $1 off 2 iSave coupon (got today) = $4 or $2 each
  • Used $2 off $20 Hannaford coupon, total was $14.19
Will use the meat towards a $10 Pyramid Ale NBPR rebate (on $10.01 of qualifying items, Limit 3).  I had planned on getting the orange juice for $2 (same link as above bagels coupon) but this store didn't have any. The non-refrigerated juices were a little larger anyway and also $2 with the iSave coupon, so it worked out in the end.

I tried to use a $5/$25 Save A Lot competitor's coupon but they wouldn't accept it.  They weren't crazy about my Hannaford coupon either even though there's a Hannaford right across the street.  I think they thought I'd copied them from somewhere but after I assured them that the $2 Hannaford coupon was from online, they put it through.
Rite Aid - was hoping to pick up a second Tecnu First Aid Gel but couldn't find it in the two stores I went to.  The Bayer meter worked out to be a great moneymaker and since its based on regular prices, I'm hoping to do it again next week.  The Tecnu should be fine to buy next week too.
  • Bayer Contour USB Meter $23.99 ($29.99 reg price, 20% discount), used $5 coupon and $20 RA coupon (type in your email where it says INSERT EMAIL HERE) and got back $10 UP = $11.01 profit *Receipt says $50 Diabetes $10 +UP Total $5.98 - so I'm guessing its more than limit one per card.  Anyone know for sure?
  • Scunchi Hair Ties (they have little knots in them, thought they were cute) $2.39 ($2.99 reg price, 20% discount), will get back $2 (SCR #80) = $0.39
  • 2 Powerade Drinks $0.97 each, used $1.50 off 2 coupon (July VV) = $0.44 or $0.22 each
  • Total was $2.17
I think the Bayer must be part of the Diabetes promo.  Here's the info on that. Then on DBF's card, I bought:
  • St. Joseph's Aspirin $1.99 ($2.49 reg price, 20% discount), used $3 coupon = $1.01 profit
  • 2 Kendall Alcohol Swabs $2.99 + $1.49 (BOGO 50% off), will get back $4 (SCR #17, $1.50 WYB one or $4 WYB 2) = $0.48 or $0.24 each
  • 3 Hartz Crunch & Clean Dog Treats $4.99 + $2.49 (BOGO 50% off) and $3.99 (20% discount price), used $0.50 peelie coupon (only found one) and got back $3 UP (WYB $10, Limit 3) = $7.97 or $2.65 each *$1 coupons in the 6/3 SS, bought this on impulse so I didn't have them with me
  • 2 Powerade Drinks $0.97 each, used $1.50 off 2 coupon (July VV) = $0.44 or $0.22 each
  • Used $4 UP and $10 UP, total was $1.97
Its never too early to start tracking - how many points do you have for next year?  I'm up to 541 on DBF's card and 751 on mine.  I've got about half the year left to get those both to 1,000 to keep my 20% discount for next year.
ShopRite
  • 4 Pepperidge Farm Hot Dog/Hamburger Rolls $3.49 each, used two $1 off 2 coupons (5/6 SS) = $11.96
  • 3 Lays Chips $2 each (must buy three)
  • Total after bag discount was $17.86
Will use the rolls towards a $10 Pyramid Ale NBPR rebate (on $10.01 of qualifying items, Limit 3).

Let me tell you my rolls story from yesterday.  I'd planned on buying Arnold rolls, they're on sale for $3 each.  I picked up four packages plus some other stuff and headed to self checkout.  As I'm scanning them, I realize I've picked up two Arnold and two Pepperidge Farm.  I ask the guy to void the transaction and went back to get four Arnold rolls.  Head back to self checkout again, scan them...and then realize my coupons are for Pepperidge Farm.  (insert forehead smack)  Some days...

Building the Empire

This is a slogan that da boyfriend and I started using a while back to talk about all my couponing.  I've found its really helpful to keep reminding ourselves of why I got into couponing in the first place - to save money for the important things in life.  Right now, for us that means building a nice big fat emergency fund.  The point of this isn't just to accumulate "stuff" although that does tend to happen!  Its about the bottom line - paying off our debt, building our savings and having money to spend on things we want to spend it on (versus paying for shampoo or toothpaste).  For the longest time, our goal was to get into a house.  Now that we've done that, our priorities have shifted a bit but our strategy is still the same.  Getting free stuff along the way never hurts either!
Rite Aid - I wanted to take advantage of the Home Improvement gift card deal but I've really got to be better about how much I'm spending out of pocket, even on gift card deals.  So, since I was done rolling my $100 Visa gift cards at Stop & Shop, I decided to use up my last $100 Visa card at Rite Aid.  I bought five $20 Home Improvement gift cards (Limit 2 per card) and got back a $5 UP for each one = $25 profit.  The UP's are good until 8/15, but I turned most of them into cash via rebates right away.

  • Revlon Callus Shaver $6.99 and Revlon Emery Board $0.99 (BOGO 50% off, regularly $1.99), used $2 Nail & Pedicure RA coupon (July VV), two $1 coupons (6/24 SS), got back $4 UP (WYB $10, Limit 2) and will get back $4 (SCR #79, Limit 2, $4 WYB 2 beauty tools valued at $5+ but folks have confirmed its working on tools less than $5)
*I bought some other Revlon items the other day so all in all, this deal was a $2.54 profit for me
  • Bayer Contour USB Meter $23.99 ($29.99 reg price, 20% discount), used $5 coupon and $20 RA coupon  (type in your email where it says INSERT EMAIL HERE) = $1.01 profit *Rumor is that when you buy two, you'll get a $5 UP so I'm going to pick up another tomorrow
  • 2 Coppertone Sunscreens $7.99 each ($9.99 reg price, 20% discount), used $2 RA coupon, $5 off 2 coupon (6/24 SS) and got back $10 UP (WYB 2, Limit 2 offers) = $1.01 profit
  • St. Joseph's Aspirin $1.99 ($2.49 reg price, 20% discount), used $3 coupon (type in your email where it says INSERT EMAIL HERE) = $1.01 profit
  • Bayer Advanced Aspirin 325 mg 24 ct $1.99 (clearance price), used $3 coupon (6/24 SS) = $1.01 profit
  • Gum Periobalance $19.99 ($24.99 reg price, 20% discount), used $5 coupon and $10 RA coupon (July VV) and will get back $5 SavingStar credit = FREE/$0.01 profit
  • 2 Powerade Drinks $0.97 each, used $1.50 off 2 coupon (July VV) = $0.44 or $0.22 each
  • Tecnu First Aid Gel (2 oz) $7.99 ($9.99 reg price, 20% discount), used $2 coupon (this beeped) and will get back $5 (SCR #11) = $0.99
  • Used four $5 UP's, total was $3.78

This transaction made me a profit of $4.22.  Big thanks to Sheila (as always!) and okdeal and gambalung at SD for posting these RA deals.

Finally found some Zest body wash the other day - $2.99 - $1 coupon (7/8 SS) and got back two $2 UP's (Limit 2) = FREE/$0.01 profit
CVS - got a 20% coupon in my email for this card but decided to use these coupons instead.  I recently learned that you can't use a % off coupon along with an X off X coupon (ie. $2 off $10). Also, using any force printed EB (from a raincheck or deal that didn't work as it was supposed to), green bag tag EB or Beauty Club EB will void the % off coupon.  What's up with that CVS?

  • 2 Nivea Lotion Tins $0.99, used two $1 Nivea CRT's = FREE/$0.02 profit
  • 2 Head & Shoulders Shampoos $6.29 + $3.14 (BOGO 50% off sale), used BOGO coupon (7/1 P&G - took off $9.49 automatically!) = FREE
  • Dermasilk $29.99, used $5 coupon (7/8 RP), used $2 off $10 beauty CRT and $4 off $20 skincare CRT and got back $10 EB (Limit 1) = $8.99
  • Used $5 EB, $8 EB and $10 EB, total was $2.61
The Nivea tins and the Dermasilk will count towards the Beauty Club too.

On a different card, I had a $4 expiring EB to use so I bought -
  • Nivea Q10 Shaving Gel $4.79, used $3 coupon and got back $2 EB (Limit 4, monthly deal) = $0.21 profit
  • Nivea Lotion Tin $0.99, used $1 Nivea CRT = FREE/$0.01 profit
  • True North Nut Snacks $4.19, will send away for TMF peelie rebate (up to $3.99) = $0.20
  • 2 Head & Shoulders Shampoos $6.29 + $3.14 (BOGO 50% off sale), used BOGO coupon (7/1 P&G - took off $9.49 automatically!) = FREE
  • Used $1 EB and $4 EB, total was $0.91
The True North rebate is valid until 9/30/12.  Instead of a rebate, you can elect to get $5 of True North coupons.

I'll sell the H&S and Dermasilk on ebay to bring in some cash.  Another way to convert EB's to cash!

PC Doubles Trip

The last couple times that Price Chopper has done double coupon events, I made out like a bandit.  This time, not so much.  There were two $1 doubler coupons in the circular (got in my Sunday paper, not the ones in the store) and you have to spend at least $15 to use them.

  • 4 Hillshire Farms Sausages $2.50 each, used two $1 off 2 tearpad coupons + doublers = $6 or $1.50 each
  • Friehofer Hot Dog Rolls $2
  • PC Dish Detergent $2, used $1.50 off $1.50 dish detergent catalina (got this a week or so ago) = $0.50
  • Suave Men's Deo $2.39, used $1.50 off $1.50 deodorant catalina (got this a week or so ago) = $0.89
  • Milk $1.50
  • 2 NY Ciabatta Garlic Bread $3.19 and BOGO sale = $3.19 or $1.59 each
  • Used $2 off $20 coupon and $6.35 in bottle slips, total was $5.84
I'll use the Hillshire Farm and rolls for a $10 Pyramid Ale NBPR rebate (on $10.01 of qualifying items).  Its very rare that NBPR rebates are in printable format like this, so if you live in a qualifying state, be sure to check this one out. The rebate is limit three and you can even send in your three rebates all in one envelope.  Save some change on stamps - every little bit helps!

This rebate is valid in all states EXCEPT for: AL, AR, DE, FL, IN, KS, LA, ME, MN, MS, ND, NH, PA, RI, SD, TN, TX, VT, and WV.  NBPR (no beer purchase required) in CT, MA, MD, MO, NC, NJ, NY and UT.   You can buy tons of stuff for this rebate but in NY, IL and VA, you have to purchase name brands (no store brands).

Now that I've moved to NY, I'm able to find a lot of these rebates in my grocery stores (never found them in Jersey), but you can buy them on ebay or trade for them on Slick Deals and HCW.  Happy rebate hunting!
