Technical Difficulties

We had a strong thunderstorm the other night which briefly knocked out my power. Unfortunately, it also fried my computer. I can't log in at all and a consultation with Geek Squad revealed that the hard drive is toast. I bought my computer refurbished in 2004 for about $600 so I've certainly gotten a lot of use out of it. It got me through grad school and the start of my couponing craze. I've been slowly moving my files over to da boyfriend's computer but unfortunately hadn't transferred everything yet. Thank goodness I'd uploaded all my pictures to Snapfish. But the spreadsheet where I track all of my purchases and rebates is gone. Luckily, I'd been emailing myself the scans of all my rebate documents, so I have those in case I have any problems with a rebate. And I have a skeleton copy of the spreadsheet, so I don't have to recreate any of the document or the formulas. But all the data is gone. Monthly budget, gone. Spreadsheet where I track all my account balances, gone. Its amazing how much I relied on that hunkajunk! Its going to be a while until I have a computer at home again, so please bear with me.

And be sure to buy new power strips from time to time people! (smacking forehead)

Sadly, I have to say "been there, done that."

I live in an area where we get power surges. Multiple power strips in the house...but...ahem...one day the laptop got moved to an outlet that had no power strip.

Sheesh...a $10 item versus paying to have that one fixed...$500 later...it conked out eventually and had to buy a new laptop.

Awwww, that sucks. :( At least you were good about sending email copies to yourself of your rebate info. Smart girl!

Oh no! I would be so very lost as well although I don't scan rebate docs (good idea). I better look into replacing my old laptop/power strip, thanks for the heads up! Good luck.

So sorry to hear about that for you, but I do so look forward to your blog updates so I hope 'da boyfriend' lets you at least use his from time to time : )

Perfect opportunity to upgrade to Apple if you like that sort of thing (I did, and I do). And a new power strip. I feel your pain and know exactly, exactly, exactly, how you are feeling right now...
Think of it as an opportunity (that's what I did), no need to beat yourself up:-)

Thanks for the kind words all. :) It sucks, but I knew my computer was on its way out anyway. Don't worry, I can still get online through other means so I'll still be around.
