Monday, Monday

On Sunday, I did something I haven't done in ages - I bought newspapers! The price of whole coupon inserts is just getting too high. I picked up six papers at $1.50 each - much cheaper than I could find them online. I'm not sure what I'll do next weekend though. The major newspaper in my area doesn't carry the Red Plum insert, so I may have to get the inserts online. I bought these when I was up by da boyfriend. He's in a different county whose paper still carries the RP.
Rite Aid - so happy to finally find the John Frieda in stock, until I got home and looked at my receipt. My cashier rang them up as "Merchandise taxable" so they won't be recognized by the SCR system as qualifying items. I knew something was off when she put them in as $4.99 and I got my Wellness discount. I wish I'd checked the receipt before leaving! I'll have to get back there by 6/28, that's the last day for the June SCR's. Tack on another item to the to-do list.
  • Sun/Mon/Tues ONLY: Got2B Fat-tastic Dry Shampoo, Mousse or Root Boost $4.99, used $2 coupon (Sept 2010 or June 2011 All You magazine) and will get back $4.99 (SCR #37) = $2 profit
  • Prell Conditioner $3.19 ($3.99 reg price, 20% Wellness discount), used $2 coupon and will get back $2 (SCR #38) = $0.81 profit
  • Excedrin Extra Strength (20 - 24 ct) $1.99, used $1 RA coupon (June Video Values), $0.75 coupon (6/5 SS) and got back $1 UP (Limit 2) = $0.76 profit
  • Ensure - just realized I have to take this back too! Grr, definitely not a good day. I bought this to send away for a TMF rebate, but the minimum price has to be $6.97+. This store sold them for $7.99, so with my Wellness discount, they rang up for $6.39.
  • Used $1 off purchase coupon (June/July Video Values), $1.99 UP, $2 UP and $2 UP, total was $1.29
Second store - this is where I found the JF
  • Sun/Mon/Tues ONLY: Got2B Fat-tastic Dry Shampoo, Mousse or Root Boost $4.99, will get back $4.99 (SCR #37) = FREE
  • Excedrin Extra Strength (20 - 24 ct) $1.99, used $1 RA coupon (June Video Values), $0.75 coupon (6/5 SS) and got back $1 UP (Limit 2) = $0.76 profit
  • 2 John Frieda Full Repair Root Lift Foams $4.99 each (rang up $3.99 each b/c the cashier goofed), used two $5 coupons (Told her to adjust these down but she didn't! 6/5 SS) and once I get the receipt fixed, I will get back $10 ($5 each, SCR #36, Limit 2) = $12.02 profit
  • Used $1 off purchase coupon (June/July Video Values), used $2 UP, total was $0.99
Sounds like someone's got a case of the Mundays. Sigh

Hey- not sure if your cvs sells them, but I always use my cvs ecb to buy papers. I'm using the deal with tampons on my dh's card for this Sunday's papers.

-Hug- ! Sorry you had a rough Monday. The thing with couponing is that it's not "free" money really - it takes work.

In the past week, I've had 3 items that were rang up wrong - one at Safeway, one at Albertsons and one at Walgreens. Safeway was the only one I caught while still at the store.

Takes a lot of work to get the deals!

It's the worst when a good plan turns out bad! Sorry your shopping trip was less than exciting!

On another note- you might check to see if another county that is close by you with a paper carries both inserts- that's how it is for me. PLUS that paper is only $.75 and has both smart source and red plum- SCORE! (If I can find it that is- this couponing crazy is taking over and there is dang near never a paper to be found anymore, grrrr)

Sexy,
That's what I always used to do - use my EB's towards papers. But the CVS by DBF is usually very low in stock and the coupons are often missing. I got these at a convenience store. I never have a problem with them missing inserts.

Leanna,
Mondays are the worst! You're absolutely right - this is definitely work. Some weeks its much more fun than others.

Mynde,
I may have to start doing that. I used to buy papers from the county over, but the coupons were awful. Maybe I'll try a different paper this time and see if I have better luck.

I bought inserts LAST week because I saw some good coupons on Saturday (I get my Sunday stuff on Saturday) and I checked on the coupon site and she didn't have the ones I really wanted...so I got 5 or 6 papers...it was fun...it was like the old days :)
BUT, I do find that for the most part around here, that the coupon site I use has way better coupons...for example...the ones in my paper are $1/2 or .50/2....yet the ones I get in the mail are $1/1 or .75/1...which I LOVE. So I kind of weigh them out...plus I hate going through the papers at Shop Rite (we go there Sundays to get DH his lunch stuff for the week). I used to grab and go, but I kept finding missing inserts, so now I look through each one....and I get the weird looks by the customer service people. I dont care if they think I'm nuts, but I just don't want them thinking I'm stealing anything, ya know? And there's NO CVS near my house....only by work :(

I was using Mad Coupons, but stopped a few months ago because her prices went higher than just buying them here.

spaghetti,
I know exactly what you mean about getting those looks while you're thumbing through the paper. But you know if you don't check, you'll be missing some inserts!

debbielynne,
I used to use Mad Coupons too, but her prices just kept going up. Plus I had a couple issues with getting the inserts in a timely manner (or at all) so I gave up.

Suz, Do you have a Dollar Tree near you? That is where I get my papers and they're only $1/ea.

Sheila,
You know, I do have a Dollar Tree down the street. I'm gonna check them out on Sunday, thanks for the tip!
