How I Worked the SR Deal

ShopRite - there's a great promo this week.  Spend $75 in qualifying items, get back a $25 ShopRite gift card.  One of the qualifying items also has a catalina deal, which makes it a really cheap way to get to $75.  These deals almost always work on shelf prices, so often times, they work out really well.

  • 2 Clairol Natural Instincts Hair Color $5.99 each, used $5 off 2 coupon (6/17 SS) and got back $6 catalina = $1.82 with tax *bought another set in another trip = $3.64 OOP
Then today I bought -
  • 2 Clairol Natural Instincts Hair Color $5.99 each, used $5 off 2 coupon (6/17 SS) and got back $6 catalina = $1.82
  • Gold Medal Bread Flour $3.99
  • 4 Country Crock Spread $1.99 each, used four $1 coupons (printable, NLA) = $0.99 each
  • 2 Oscar Mayer Cold Cuts $2.99 each (shelf price $3.99)
  • 2 Cracker Barrel Cheese Slices $2.99 each (shelf price $3.69), used $1 off 2 coupon (6/17 SS) = $4.98 or $2.49 each
  • 8 Yoplait Yogurts $0.75 each, used $0.50 off 8 coupon, $1 off 8 SR catalina coupon (got this last week) and will get back $0.40 Savingstar credit (WYB 6) = $3.60 or $0.45 each
Non Promo Stuff -
  • 2 ShopRite hot dog/hamburger rolls $1 each (must buy 2)
  • ShopRite Garlic Bread $1.99, used $1 catalina coupon = $0.99
  • 3 Borden Single Sensations $2.19 each, used three $0.75 coupons (6/17 SS) = $0.69 each
  • Used $6 catalina and $10 catalina, total was $19.72
So all in all, I spent $33.36 on all these items and got back a $25 ShopRite gift card.  And that includes $5.06 spent on non-promo stuff, so when you take that out, it was just about even - $25 spent, $25 back on a SR gift card!  Nothing better than free food.  I have some more $5 off 2 Clairol coupons so I'm going to do the deal again on another SR card.
Rite Aid - last Saturday, I took advantage of the Home Improvement gift card glitch four times, so I've got $40 in free money to spend.  What better way than to turn it into cash?

  • 3 Physician's Formula Youthful Wear Makeup Items - Foundation $14.95, Powder $6.97 (BOGO 50% off sale) and Concealer $10.36 ($12.95 reg price, 20% discount), used three $3 peelie coupons, got back two $5 UP's ($5 UP WYB $15 worth, Limit 2) and will send away for $25 rebate (WYB 3) = $11.72 profit
  • Compound W Freeze Off $10.99, used $1 coupon (or here) and will get back $10 (SCR #9) = FREE/$0.01 profit
  • Used three $10 UP's, total was $5.89
My store had a display of the Youthful Wear makeup items with these peelies attached so keep an eye out for them.  You have to include a rebate sticker for each item on the rebate.

You can also pick up Act II popcorn for $1 a box (just don't buy the mini-bags) and get back a $2 UP for every two you buy (Limit 2 offers).  I didn't get these because I wanted to spend up all my UP's.  I've got one more $10 UP to use.

Shave a Few Bucks off The Price Please

Yet another reason I love Sheila's blog - she posts the best deals!  I haven't had a chance to keep up with Slick Deals this week, so its great to check in with her blog to find the best stuff.  Here's what I got at CVS today -

  • Gillette Fusion Cartridges (4 ct) $15.49, used $2 cartridges CRT (got this last week)
  • Gillette ProGlide Razor $9.99, used FREE razor coupon (WYB cartridges, 6/3 P&G, cashier took off $10.99), got back $4 EB (Limit 1)
  • Gillette Fusion Shave Prep $2.49, used $1 coupon (6/3 P&G) - thought this was around $5
  • pur-Absorb Supplement $15.99 (raincheck price), got back $16 EB (raincheck) = FREE
  • Nexxus Shampoo $3.59, used $3 Nexxus CRT (off sham/cond) = $0.59
  • Plastic Bin $1
  • Used $4/$20 coupon, $10/$30 Gillette CRT (this went thru even though I didn't spend $30) and $15 EB, total was $4.99, final cost for everything (including tax) = FREE!

I bought the pur-Absorb, Nexxus and plastic bin so that I'd have an additional $20 in purchases above and beyond the $30 Gillette stuff.  Last week when I tried to use a $4/$20 along with a coupon that required an additional $10 purchase, it beeped.  I guess when you use these kind of coupons in combination, you have to spend enough to satisfy both - is that right?  I haven't had any X off X coupons in so long, I've forgotten the rules!

If I hadn't purchased the non-Gillette stuff, it would have cost me about $5 (before tax) and then after the $4 EB for the razor - about $1.  You can't beat that!  Da boyfriend loves Gillette and the deals on them have become pretty scarce.

I had to scan my CVS card three times before I got the $10/$30 Gillette CRT so don't give up.  I got a great bunch of CRT's - $4 off $20 beauty purchase, $2 off two Tresemme hair care (use on the trial size bottles at $0.99 each, I couldn't find any at this store), $3 off $10 CVS brand purchase, $7 off Physician's Formula makeup and $15 off Physician's Formula skincare.  What a great haul!

Wait, Wait, Please Don't Make Me Wait

Can't stop singing Timebomb!  I wasn't crazy about the song the first time I heard it, but it has definitely grown on me.  I've taken to bopping around the house saying "woop!" whenever the mood strikes me.  Do you remember The Loco-motion?  I remember working out a routine to that song in dance class when I was younger.  Who would have thought Kylie would come so far from those days?

ShopRite has been listening to the song too and made me wait to use my catalinas.  I thought I'd be able to use the $10 catalina I earned right away, but it wouldn't go through and the manager that came over told me it was valid starting next week.  Bummer.  I bought the gift cards first and then everything else separately.  Here's what I got -

  • 2 $25 Shell Gift Cards, got back $10 catalina (WYB $50 worth) = $10 profit
  • Snapple 6 pack $5.99, used $1 coupon (6/10 SS) and will submit for TMF rebate (found on product) = $1 profit
  • Kix $1.88, used $0.75 coupon and will get back $0.75 Savingstar credit = $0.37 profit
  • 4 Lays Chips $3 each
  • Doritos (hidden behind the Sun Chips - great picture taking I've got going tonight huh?) $2.14
  • Milk $0.79
  • Sloppy Joe Mix $0.99
  • Total was $71.78
Stop & Shop

  • 2 $25 Shell Gift Cards, got back $10 catalina (WYB $50 worth) = $10 profit
  • Snapple 6 pack $5.99, used $1 coupon (6/10 SS) and will submit for TMF rebate (found on product) = $1 profit
  • 20 Friskies Indoor and Plus Wet Cat Food $0.50 each, used five $0.50 off 4 coupons (3/18 RP) = $5 or $0.25 each
  • Used $7 catalina, total was $53.45

Got the cat food for a donation event going on at work so I didn't even bring them home.

Walgreens

  • 2 Bisquicks $1.50 each
  • Used $2 RR, total was $1

No Green Thumbs on This Hand

Today was gardening day.  We'd torn out a bunch of bushes from the front of the house and it looked very bare without them.  We left the larger bush on the far corner (there's one on the left side too) because they were actually healthy looking.  Unfortunately, a lot of the plants at the house were withered and dead when we moved in.  I don't think the previous owners were able to keep up with the upkeep.
It was a million and a half degrees today so Shadow (and I) couldn't wait to get back inside.  She doesn't like the heat any more than I do.
I'm working on making this flower bed beautiful.  I ripped up all the weeds and till'd the dirt.  I asked my dad, aka Mr. Green Thumb and some friends what would be good to plant here that wouldn't be devoured by deer.  I got some snapdragon, zinnia and marigold seeds and had wonderful visions of a blooming garden.  As I was looking at the seed packets, I realized that I was supposed to grow a lot of them indoors in starter pots and then transfer them outside.  The heck with that, it was way too hot out and I wanted to be done.  So I sprinkled the seeds around, pushed them gently in the dirt and watered the whole area.  We'll see how this turns out, but I don't have high hopes.  I may be making another trip back to the store to pick up some ready-to-plant flowers.

We decided on a deer resistant variety of azaleas for the front of the house.  While I was messing around in my little flower garden, da boyfriend planted the azaleas under Shadow's watchful eye.  She loves to supervise by watching us from the top of the couch.
We also bought a hanging plant for right outside the window in our kitchen.  Now that its there, I can't imagine not having a plant there.  It just added that special something to the kitchen.
Isn't it beautiful?  We've got a couple other hooks outside the sliding glass door so I think we'll get another couple of plants for those.
We also got some shopping done today too -

Stop & Shop

  • 4 Magnum Ice Cream Bars $3 each, used two $1.50 off 2 coupons, got $4 instant savings (WYB 4 qualifying items) and got back $2 catalina (WYB 2 Magnum) = $3 or $0.75 each
  • 5 Oscar Mayer Cold Cuts $1 each, got back $4 catalina (WYB 5, last day for this) = $1 or $0.20 each
  • 3 $25 Shell Gift Cards and $25 S&S gift card, got back $10 catalina for buying $50 of qualifying gift cards (Shell not the S&S) = $10 profit
  • Used $7 catalina, total was $103
I have a $25 Amstel rebate off $100 of groceries (AMLNA004, valid until 9/30).  I figured I'd buy the extra $50 in gift cards to push my total over $100, submit for the rebate and see what happens. I'm going to make a copy of the receipt, black out the gift cards with a sharpie and send it in.  I would have bought four Shell cards but couldn't find a fourth one so I picked up the S&S card instead.

We also swung by Price Chopper and got a second set of the items I got yesterday (minus the cake mix).  Found a savings pack of the beef for $8.19, so after the $3 coupon and $5 rebate, it only cost $0.19.  Love that!

My PC Trip

Price Chopper - all my coupons went through correctly!  I'm amazed

  • 5 Oscar Mayer cold cuts $0.79 each, got back $4 catalina (WYB 5) = FREE/$0.05 profit
  • Ground Beef Super Pack $8.54, used $3 coupon and will send away for $5 Pabst NBPR rebate on $5.01 of beef = $0.54
  • Blueberries $0.88 with coupon
  • PC Butter $0.88 with coupon
  • PC Cake Mix $0.50 with coupon
  • Heinz Ketchup $0.88 with coupon and used $0.25 coupon (5/20 SS) = $0.38
  • Lays Chips $3
  • KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce $2.79, BOGO sale = $1.39 each
  • Used $4 catalina, total was $13.92
Pabst rebates require the UPC's of the non-beer items so I'll be washing off the UPC from the beef package and sending that in.  This is the only company I've encountered while doing NBPR rebates that actually requires this.  Can't imagine why they'd want UPC's from meat packages, but to each his own.

Cheap Coke at CVS

I have not been feeling well the past two days at all.  I got something in my right eye that irritated the heck out of it.  Its been red, itchy and so uncomfortable.  I went to the Doctor and got some eye drops that have helped bring the inflammation down a bit.  Today I woke up with an awful headache that quickly turned into a migraine.  I've slept most of the day away, but I didn't want to miss the $1.99 Coke at CVS, so I sent da boyfriend out to the store.  Here's what he got -

  • Speed Stick Power Deodorant $2.99, used $1.50 coupon (from red machine, there's a $1 coupon in the 5/20 SS but I didn't get that in my inserts), got back $2 EB (Limit 1) = $0.51 profit
  • Diet Coke $1.99 with coupon from red machine (valid today only and with additional $10 purchase)
  • Physician's Formula Skincare $20.99, got back $15 EB (Limit 1) = $5.99
  • Used $4 off $20 coupon and $4 EB, total was $18.86
The Coke coupon beeped and the cashier gave him quite a hard time with it.  First she said that you had to buy $10 worth of Coke to use it.  Then she said the Coke cases were around $6 and since the coupon says the maximum discount is $2.01, she couldn't adjust it so it came out to $1.99.  DBF stared her down (hilarious) and she finally entered in the $2.01 discount.  The cases were on sale for $4 so it came out to $1.99 in the end.  Oy.

Nice and Simple

CVS - got a $4 off $12 cosmetics CRT today from the scanner.  Tried to use it to purchase some Physician's Formula makeup ($5 EB) but it beeped saying it wasn't valid on my card.  I definitely was using the right card, so I'm not sure what happened.  I had the cashier void off the makeup.  I'll see if I get the CRT on any other cards and try again another day.

  • Physician's Formula Skincare $20.99, got back $15 EB (Limit 1) = $5.99
  • Simple Eye Makeup Remover $1.99 (found this in the front displays where they usually put new makeup and skincare stuff), used $2 Simple CRT (got this last week) = FREE
  • Used $4 off $20 coupon and $4.99 EB, total was $13.53
Got back $1 EB for using my green bag tag.  I got an email from CVS saying that if you scan your card at the red coupon machine tomorrow, you'll get a coupon for a case of Coke for $1.99 with an additional $10 purchase.  Be sure to scan those cards!

What's Up with the UP's?

Walgreens - well this isn't very exciting, but here's what I got with my $2 RR's from Ectotrin.

  • 6 No Nonsense Knee Highs three for $1 with in-circular coupon = $2
  • 3 Bugles three for $4.99, used $0.99 off 3 coupon (monthly coupon book) = $4
  • Used three $2 RR's, total was zero

I haven't shopped at RA in a couple weeks, but Erica's recent post about the changes to the UP's program has me wondering if my hiatus might turn into something more permanent.  What do you think about the changes?

What I Got Today

Price Chopper

  • 2 Cases Aquafina Bottled Water $3.99 each, will send away for $7 Newcastle NBPR rebate on $7.01 of water and/or ice (NBNA007) = $0.98
  • Grapes $0.88/lb with in-circular coupon = should have been $1.60 but was charged $2.51
  • Peaches $0.99/lb = $1.34
  • McCormick Seasoning $2.79, used $2 iSave coupon = $0.79
  • 2 Solo Cups $2 each, used $1.50 off $1.50 plates/cups/napkin catalina (got this on my trip yesterday) and got back $1 catalina = $1.50 or $0.75 each
  • Yuengling Beer $15.99 with in-circular coupon
  • Thomas English Muffins and 2 loaves Friehofer Wheat Bread $4.29, BOG2 free = $4.29 or $1.43 each
  • Used $4 catalina, total was $37.15

It seems like every time I go to PC, I have a coupon problem.  Even though I gave it to the cashier, she totally missed my Yuengling coupon and now I realized she rang up the grapes coupon incorrectly also.  I'm not sure what the problem was with the grapes coupon, she re-weighed the grapes and then manually entered something into the register.  She also did something weird with my $4 catalina, it beeped and didn't go through and then she tried to tell me that it did.  The cashiers at this store are very friendly, but I'm getting sick of having to visit Customer Service so often.  Coupons very often don't scan with their registers so they enter almost everything manually.  Very frustrating.

ShopRite

  • 2 Pantene Sham/Cond $2.99 each, used $3 off 2 coupon (5/14 P&G) and got back $2 catalina (WYB 2) = $0.98 *Will use to finish up $10 Olay rebate

DBF's Favorite Coupon

Price Chopper - finally got here this week. I'm glad I waited because Sheila posted a coupon for a FREE donut today.  I would be lost without her PC deals!  Da boyfriend went shopping with me so naturally that sucker didn't make it out of the parking lot.  Here's what else we got -

  • 2 Coke Zero 2 Liters $1.66 each, used two $0.99 coupons (fully doubled b/c cashier put them through manually) = $0.64 profit
  • 2 Barilla Pastas $1 each, used two $1 coupons (printable, no longer available) = FREE
  • Donut $0.79, used FREE coupon = FREE
  • 5 Oscar Mayer Hams $1.19 each, got back $4 catalina (WYB 5, through 6/10) = $1.95 or $0.39 each
  • 4 Suddenly Salads $1.50 each, used two $0.50 off 2 coupons = $4 or $1 each
  • 2 PC Swiss Cheese $3 each, used $1 off 2 iSave coupon = $5 or $2.50 each
  • Blueberries (pint) $1.49 with coupon (otherwise $1.99)
  • Used $4 catalina and $6.95 in bottle slips, total was $5.22

Umm, what?

So...somebody made a movie about Abraham Lincoln fighting off zombies?  This is so ridiculous that I think I might just have to watch it!  Check out Honest Abe's raised eyebrow - I think even he can't believe this is happening!
Hold up, he also fights vampires?  Who knew the 16th President was such a multi-tasker?
