BEEP!

Don't they look innocent? Gazing outside at the leaves without a care in the world. No guilt, no remorse. Well, let me tell you, they shouldn't be feelin' so carefree. For the past several days, these little punks have woken me up a half hour before my alarm is set to go off. They usually do that on the weekends because they're used to getting up at a certain time during the week. I get up and feed them and they usually settle down. But this waking me up early during the week nonsense has to stop. I had off work today and I knew they'd wake me up early, which they did. I fed them and hopped back into bed. An hour later...BEEP! My stupid fire alarm battery was dying. I got out of bed, stood on one of my dining room chairs, unhooked the little bastard and shoved him under a stack of blankets to muffle the subsequent beeps I knew would be coming. (Did you ever see that Friends episode where Phoebe is apartment sitting and can't get the alarm to stop beeping? That happened to me a couple years ago. Not fun) Anyhoo, back to bed for me. A half hour later...BEEP! It wasn't the fire alarm beeping, it was the carbon monoxide detector. Sigh. I got up again, took out the batteries (hitting the discharge button in the process which let off another infuriating BEEP! right in my face), put in new ones (which I now know causes another BEEP!) and went back to bed. Again. Hour later...my phone rings. By the time I got up and stumbled over to the phone, I had missed the call. It was work but whoever called didn't leave a message. Sigh. I powered up my laptop and sure enough, I had some "urgent" emails from a coworker. What a morning. What a day off!
Sure Gigi, NOW you sleep. Now that I'm fully awake and stuck answering work emails on my day off. Snore it up you punk (said with love of course). :)

Think I Can Fly to Work with These Bad Boys?

Walgreens
  • 4 Quaker Instant Oats $2.50 each, used two $1.25 off 2 coupons (8/30 RP) and in-circular BOGO coupon (took off $3.62), got back $5 RR (WYB $10 worth) = $1.12 profit
  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $8.99, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • Walgreens spices $1.19
  • Used $6 RR, total was $4.69

The Quaker was not marked as being two for $5, so don't fret if its not marked in your stores either. Pluck up your courage and bring those containers to the register with pride! (I'm overtired again, can you tell?) I wasn't sure what my total was going to be, otherwise I would have used more RR's to pay. I gave the cashier two $2 ones, but they wouldn't go through because the WAG BOGO coupon had already been scanned. Stupid Walgreens. After this transaction, I bought another razor + two knee highs for $0.81 total.

  • Used $2 RR, $2 RR and $6 RR, total was $0.69

Then I bought another razor plus two more knee highs = $0.81. At another store:

  • 4 Quaker Instant Oats $2.50 each, used two $1.25 off 2 coupons (8/30 RP) and in-circular BOGO coupon (took off $3.62), got back $5 RR (WYB $10 worth) = $1.12 profit
  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $8.99, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • Snickers $0.69
  • Used $1 RR, $1 RR and $6 RR, total was $2.24

I hadn't planned on buying the Snickers but needed another item to match up my coupons to items ratio. I was thinking I was ok, but when my last coupon beeped, I realized my mistake and had to grab something fast.

Well that's it my dear friends...my very last Gillette coupon has been used. (momentous sigh of relief) Would you like a grand total for the month? Well, I'm going to tell you anyway. I have bought 38 razors! They were $8.99 each and I paid $0.63 in tax on each. So after counting in the profit from using a coupon and getting back a $6 RR, that's $0.38 profit on each, times 38 equals $14.44 profit!

ShopRite
  • 3 Marcal toilet papers $0.95 each, used three freebie coupons (10/18 SS) = FREE
  • 4 Flex-a-Min Glucosamines $5.99 (raincheck price), used four $6 coupons (adjusted to $5.99, 9/27 or 10/25 RP) = FREE
  • 2 Birds Eye lightly sauced veggies $0.99 each, used two $0.50 coupons = FREE
  • Ronzoni Garden Delights pasta $1.99, used freebie coupon (valid up to $1.89, 10/18 SS) = $0.10
  • 3 pounds MacIntosh apples $0.99
  • Land o Lakes butter $1.77 (four day sale, not a fabulous price but I'm out)
  • 4 bags SR shredded cheese $0.99 each (four day sale price)
  • 3 SR sour creams $1.29 each
  • Gallon of milk $2.49
  • SR tortillas $1.99
  • Used two $2 cats and got $0.15 bag discount, total was $10.94

There was a lady and a gent in line behind me and I could see out of the corner of my eye that they were getting frustrated waiting (the raincheck was a wee bit tricky). The gent turned to me to say something and I was pleasantly surprised to hear him talk about how his wife coupons too and how valuable it is. The lady turned the screen at the end of my order so she could see the total. :)

Yet Again...

I'm sure you're all as sick of looking at my Gillette posts as I am sick of buying them, but here goes anyway. Some folks on HCW were saying the Gillette deal stopped on 10/24, but its still running in my area at least. I used up four coupons today, five to go...

Store 1
  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $8.99, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • Walgreens spices $1.19
  • Used $6 RR, total was $0.81

Repeated. Then at store 2,

  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $8.99, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • 2 Walgreens knee highs $1.19 for both
  • Used $6 RR, total was $0.81

Repeated.

That's it. Short and sweet for today. :)

Mark Your Calendars - I Cooked Today!

Thanks to laura1970 who posted about this on the MSN Message Boards, we were able to snag all of this for free! Coke Rewards has a reward available now for 125 points. You get two new releases, a tub of popcorn and two 20 oz. Coke products, all for FREE!
ShopRite
  • 8 boxes Ronzoni Garden Delight pasta $1.99 each, used eight freebie coupons (10/18 SS - valid up to $1.89) = $0.10 each (DBF bought four and I bought four)
  • Got $0.10 bag discount, total was $0.70

Walgreens - ordered 15 more Gillette coupons off ebay and my good friend dancinmama sent me three more as well. We used up half today, so its my mission for the week to use up the rest. I rolled my $6 Gillette RR's today, but just be aware that you can't normally do this. For some reason, there's a glitch in the system on this deal that's allowing this to work.

  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $8.99, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • 2 Reese's pumpkins $0.67 each with in-circular coupon
  • Used $6 RR, total was $1.06 (DBF repeated)

Then I bought:

  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $8.99, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • 2 Reese's pumpkins $0.67 each with in-circular coupon
  • 2 Tostitos $3 each, got back $2 RR (WYB 2) = $2 each
  • Used $3 RR, $3 RR and $6 RR, total was $1.06

At another store

  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $8.99, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • Chocolate chip cookie $1.19
  • Half gallon milk $1.79
  • Used $1 RR and $6 RR, total was $1.60 (DBF repeated minus the milk)

Another store

  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $9.49*, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $0.51 profit
  • Walgreens spices $1.19
  • Used $6 RR, total was $1.35

*For some reason, the razor rang up as $9.49 at this store. DBF bought this one and I caught the price difference when I went to check out. I have no idea why it was more expensive. Since its a monthly deal and not in the circular anymore, the cashier didn't believe me that the price was wrong. I checked the aisle and of course it wasn't labeled, so we just bought the one razor at this store and left.

  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $9.49, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • Walgreens chocolate chip brownie $1.29
  • Used $6 RR, total was $0.91 (DBF repeated)

Then I bought

  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $9.49, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • Tostitos and Doritos $3 each, got back $2 RR (WYB 2) = $2 each
  • Walgreens chocolate chip brownie $1.29
  • Used $3 RR, $3 RR and $6 RR, total was $0.91
Its that time again - time to subject DBF to my cooking! My mom and I were watching a mac 'n cheese cook-off on the Food Network a couple weeks ago, and ever since then, I've had such a hankering for it. I was going to make it last weekend, but I was out of flour. I got some this week so we're ready to go. Here's what you need: pasta, American cheese, salt, flour, milk and butta.
Please note these are a must - you simply must use cavatappi. Any old pasta will just not do. Cavatappi has the perfect squiggles and twists to absorb the maximum amount of cheese. And speaking of cheese, I always use american. No cheddar for this gal. Trust me on this one.
Melt up 6 tablespoons of butter and then throw in one teaspoon of salt and 4 tablespoons flour. Be sure to mix that flour up good otherwise it's gonna taste weird.
(I am demonstrating the crucial mixing process for you)
See? Mixed. Ok, let's proceed....
You're gonna need 4 cups of cheese. You could cut it up if you want, but I usually just tear mine into small pieces.
The smaller the better so they'll melt faster.
Yummy, yummy pasta! You want to cook the pasta so its just underdone. Its going to bake in a delicous creamy, cheesy sauce for a while, so it'll finish cooking then.
Start dumping in your cheese into your butter and flour.
Stir....
Stir...
Stir some more until it gets nice and thick. This process usually takes way too long for me. You'll hear a lot of impatient sighs from the kitchen during this time.
Dump the cheesy goodness onto your noodles. Make sure they're all covered otherwise you're gonna have crunchy noodles. Nobody likes a crunchy noodle. I always put the pan on a cookie sheet. I learned this tip from watching Giada and its saved me from some oven scrubbing many a time. Sometimes if you over-fill the pan, it will bubble over in your oven. The cookie sheet saves you from cleaning up a mega-mess.Bake at 350 degrees for 35-50 minutes. You have to let it set up a bit before eating (more impatient sighs at this point).
But its oh so worth the wait. Yuuuuuummmmmmm!

Domo Makes me Giggle

Its been a very long week. I've been staying about an hour to an hour and a half late every day at work. Today was the first day in almost a month that I've actually left the building for a lunch break. I had a sandwich rather than my usual fare of Cheez-Its. I'm not sure if its all the long hours or lack of sleep, but I'm feeling a wee bit silly and I can't help sharing my new friend with you. Say hello to Domo.

Have you seen Domo at your local Target, decked out for Halloween? Perhaps he's encouraged you to purchase a coffee at 7-11. I don't know what it is exactly about Domo that draws me in. Perhaps its those shiny black eyes. Or it might be that wide, open mouth. Is he shouting? Is he angry? He's just so expressive! Let's explore the many faces of Domo, shall we?
I vant to suck your blood...(what's with the star on his man-panties?)Rockin it. You go Domo.
Ooooh, he's mad about sumthin!
Perplexed?
Give me a D! Give me an O! Give me a M! Give me another O! What's that spell? Domo!

How you doin?
Hmm, this one's tricky. He might be pondering one of life's mysteries.
On that note, I am off to get some much needed rest. (Domo says good night too)

Gosh!

Walgreens
  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $8.99, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • Stamps $8.80
  • 2 Motts apple juices $1.79 each
  • Used two $6 RR's, total was $6

I had planned on buying two packs of Trident here. They rang up as $1.29 and $0.71 each and the cashier entered in my BOGO coupon as $0.71 and would not budge when I tried to get him to enter it in for a buck. Sigh. I had him take the gum off the order, which totally flustered me and threw off my plan. I should have used a third $6 RR, but I was thinking I didn't have enough items to coupons.

  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $8.99, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • Trident Layers gum $1 each, used BOGO coupon (10/18 SS - cashier entered in as $1.49 off - quite an improvement over store #1), got back $1 RR = $0.51 profit
  • Scotch bubble mailer $0.33 with in-circular coupon
  • Walgreens $25 gift card - I'm getting tired of hunting for change with all these tiny totals
  • Used $6 RR, total was $25.64

Then I bought:

  • Gillette Fusion MVP Manual or Power Razor System $8.99, used $4 coupon (9/27 P&G) and got back $6 RR = $1.01 profit
  • 2 Motts apple juices $1.79 each
  • Used $2 RR and $6 RR, total was $1.20

The cashier scanned one of my juices twice and then bagged it for me. As he was moving the second bottle to the bag, he ran the barcode across the scanner and it rang it up again. He let out a huge, exasperated Napoleon Dynamite-esque grunt and voided it. Then he went to bag it and guess what happened? BEEP! Mr. Dynamite scanned it again! Another grunt and a void. He finally got it right, but then had a really hard time getting the bottles in my reusable bag. Poor guy was just having a rough day.

Pathmark - finally remembered to get my Snuggle rainchecks :)

  • 4 Rayovac batteries (AA or AAA) $1 each, used four $1 coupons (10/18 SS) = FREE

DBF bought the same thing. The cashier ripped out the circular coupon for the Scotch and then would not use it again for the second transaction. I had to walk over, get another circular and open it up to the page so she could scan it. And...she had a circular right there at the register. What's up with that? Rude! Most stores don't rip out the coupon at all.

Is There a She Wolf in Your Closet?

There's a she wolf in your closet...Open up and set her free...

There's a she wolf in your closet...
Let it out so it can breathe...
Au-ooooooooooo!

After reading the thrilling reviews of this shirt on amazon, my sister had to have it as a birthday gift to herself. After all, its what every girl wants. What did my other sister and I get her?Carefully chosen decorative gift bags...
...and a tasteful air freshener. (that was from me)

WAG Marathon

My staff bought me these flowers and a kick-ass card for Boss' Day. Isn't that sweet? I've only been working in this department for a couple months and things have been going really well. We all get along well and even though I'm working my ass off, I am really enjoying myself.

I Love the Fall(s)

Isn't the fall just absolutely beautiful? Its my favorite season. I love the colors of the leaves, the crisp air and being outside. DBF and I did some sightseeing this weekend and absolutely no hounding. (gasp) I know! I'm going to order six sets of coupons from Dede and do my shopping during the week. It was just too beautiful a day to plan my deals, sort out my coupons and shop. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
My sister's birthday is coming up on Monday and we all went out to dinner on Saturday to celebrate. Stay tuned for pics of some of her presents. :) We also scheduled a photo shoot with Riley, since its been a while. Remember this little guy?
(collective "awwwwww!") He's growing up right before my eyes!
Look at how much bigger he is! The top shot was taken back in July, only a short four months ago.
Its much harder to get Riley to cooperate for his photo ops now. He's too busy running around, crashing into things (and people) and nibbling on every toy he can get his little teething-teeth into. Most of the shots were like this:
Rocky is not amused.
After a while, I ventured outside to my dad's variety of local flora. He is quite the gardener.
I am especially intrigued by this gargantuan leaf. I do believe my dad watched Jurassic Park one too many times. If you live in their neighborhood, please ignore those noises and screams. Nothing to see here folks, please continue your tour and do not attempt to exit the Jeep.
Sunday was an absolutely perfect fall day. Sunny, breezy and cool. I wish every day could be like this. DBF and I went for our Sunday drive and pointed the car towards Bushkill Falls in Pennsylvania.
It was well worth the drive!
I wasn't especially thrilled with the rickety handrails and steps. Have I mentioned that heights are so not my thing? Well, DBF is well aware of this and somehow neglected to mention the vast network of stairs, railings and walkways in the park. I'm sure it was an honest mistake.
(shudder) DBF took this shot. There was no way I was leaning over the railing that far.
The falls were so beautiful. The one good thing about all those stairs was that you got to see all different angles and parts of the falls. Our brochure said there are 8 or 9 separate falls within the park. Some were small. Some were not.
The park itself was gorgeous too. There's nothing like crunching on leaves, watching the sunlight poke through the leaves and smelling evergreen trees and pinecones.
This shot reminds me of the first Lord of the Rings movie where the hobbits are hiding from the ring wraith. I was half-expecting worms and bugs to start crawling out of the earth.
Admission today cost us $10 a person, but it was so worth it. I love that they kept these older signs and had them on display.
