Everyday I'm Bu-Buff-er-in

Happy Halloween everyone!  We got doused in a major snowstorm this past weekend and I got over a foot of snow.  Luckily my power's on, but many areas around me lost power from tree limbs falling on wires.  There are downed trees everywhere.

I thought I'd finally be able to share a picture of my hounding today.  Got the camera, got da boyfriend's computer but sadly, I forgot my USB cable.  It was not to be.  Here's what I got:

Walgreens

  • Ricola Dual Action Cough Drops (19 ct) $2, got back $2 RR = FREE
*There's a BOGO coupon for these in the 10/2 SS but this was an impromptu trip and I didn't have it on me.  I noticed the package says these are an oral anesthetic, which I think means they'll numb your throat, right?  I'm not crazy about that feeling so I probably won't get any more.

Rite Aid

  • Bufferin (130 ct) $6.99, used $3 coupon (10/16 SS) and will get back $6 (SCR #10) = $2.01 profit
  • Hartz Clumping Cat Litter Scooper $1.83 ($2.29 reg price, 20% Wellness discount), will get back $1.25 (SCR #49 - WYB any pet accessory) = $0.58
  • Used $5 UP, total was $0.95
Figure its always nice to have an extra (clean) scooper lying around.

At a separate store, I got:

  • Bufferin (130 ct) $6.99, used $3 coupon (10/16 SS) and will get back $6 (SCR #10) = $2.01 profit
  • 3 Hartz Crunch & Clean Dog Treats $3.99 each, one was 50% off so $2.49, used two $0.50 peelie coupons and Hartz Duck Quackers Toy $4.79 ($5.99 reg price, 20% Wellness discount), will get back $4 (SCR #52, WYB $15 of Hartz toys, treats or rawhides) = $10.26 or $2.56 per item
  • Used $2 UP and $5 UP, total was $13.39
Thought all the Hartz items were BOGO 50% off, but I only got the 50% discount one of the four items I bought.  It worked out ok though, my total was $15.26 for the Hartz items.  I had three $0.50 peelie coupons but just realized the cashier missed one.

Easy Money

Stop & Shop - catalina deal this week where you get back $5 when you buy a $25 gift card.  The circular says only Mastercard prepaid cards (or Visa?) qualify, but in reality, a bunch do!
  • $25 Shell gift card, got back $5 catalina = $5 profit
  • $25 Lowes gift card, got back $5 catalina = $5 profit
Easy way to make $10!  The catalinas specify one per transaction (when redeeming) so be sure to factor that in when you're planning how to spend them.

Here are the cards that are confirmed to be working for this promo: Aeropostale, Amazon.com, Dunkin Donuts, DSW, Gulf, Home Depot, JCPenney, Kohl's, Lowes, Michael's, Outback Steakhouse, Ruby Tuesday, Sears, Sephora, Shell, Toys R Us, Justice & McDonald's

Not working: Cheesecake Factory & Stop n Shop

Also hit up CVS for FREE candy corn ($0.99, $0.99 EB, Limit 1) and paid with a $0.99 EB so I only had to fork over seven pennies for tax.  The candy corn deal is only good through today.

Then finally, off to Rite Aid:
  • 2 Simply Saline Neti Pot Kits $14.99, BOGO sale, will send away for TMF rebate and got back $5 UP (WYB $10, Limit 4) = $5 profit
  • Kerasal Exfoliating Foot Moisturizer (30 g) $0.99, will get back $2 (SCR #73) = $1.01 profit *Oct SCR so purchase by today, 10/25 to qualify
  • Total was $16.05
Separately, I bought:
  • 2 Arm & Hammer Simply Saline Baby Nasal Spray $5.99, BOGO sale, will send away for TMF rebate (peelie found on package) = FREE
*Thought I'd get back a second $5 UP for spending $20 (and I still think I should have) but it didn't print.  I'm hoping once I purchase something else on this card, it will magically pop out.  I did these transactions back to back and it may have just been too fast.

10/30 - 11/5

CVS

    Great Cover Girl Deal

I bought extra papers on Sunday just so I could do this deal twice:

    Rite Aid - my card

    • Four Cover Girl Professionals Loose Powders $6.05 each and four CG Smoothers Concealers $6.99 each, used four $8 off 2 coupons (10/2 P&G) and got back $10 UP (WYB $30, Limit 1)

I'll also use these purchases towards the $10 Olay rebate WYB $50 to make my overall profit $15.98!

All Cover Girl makeup is BOGO 50% off this week and the coupons are good on ANY CG makeup. It makes choosing items for this deal super easy, but I can never predict how RA will calculate these BOGO 50% prices. I was happy to get the loose powder for free, I love that stuff. The two stores I went to had a slightly different selection of items and the prices varied, so what you find at your store may vary.

Went back to ShopRite for some more goodies:
    • Lysol Dual Action Wipes $1.99, used $1 coupon (Oct All You magazine) and will send away for TMF rebate = $1 profit
    • Pompeian Extra Virgin Olive Oil $5.99 (down from $12.99)

Would anyone be willing to print/scan/email me some $2 Hatfield coupons?  I'd really love to stock up on some free ham.  Thank you, thank you, thank you if you are able to do so!

Got some routine maintenance done on my Honda-mobile yesterday.  Saved 15% because I got the work done on Sunday (a special the dealership runs) and I'm going to send away for a free Honda stadium blanket for having a service done between 10/1 and 10/15.

So remember my hit and run accident from a while back?  I never filed a claim because the damage was pretty minor.  I reported it to my insurance but that was all.  The police report said I was at fault which ticked me off, but the insurance company told me they determined that I wasn't at fault.  Fine and dandy, I moved on with my life.  All of a sudden, the insurance company starts calling me left and right last week.  Turns out, the guy who hit me has filed a claim -- almost two months after the accident - sound fishy to you too?  But here's the kicker -- he's the one at fault!  Karma baby!

    Sucked in by the Moneymaker

Finally got myself in gear and did the moneymaker deal at ShopRite:
    • 5 Nabisco Snack Packs $2.88 each, got back $20 in catalinas = $5.60 profit
I did this deal a bunch of times at several stores.  I got Fig Newtons, Chips Ahoy, Oreo's, Teddy Grahams and the multi-packs of Oreo's/Nutter Butters/Chips Ahoy.  Now I've got lots of snacks on hand for free!

Also hit up Rite Aid for free Softsoap:
    • 4 Softsoap Body Washes $2.99 each, used four $1 coupons (9/25 SS) and got back four $2 UP's (Limit 4) = FREE/$0.01 profit
One Rite Aid was out of the body wash so I headed up to the front to get a raincheck.  This store always gives me problems so I have to admit, I was primed for a fight.  Nothing is ever easy here.  The cashier said they could write me a raincheck...for $2.99.  What's the point of that?  I asked if I could have a raincheck for $0.99 instead since that's the post-UP price.  She said they don't write rainchecks that way and confirmed with the manager.  I mentioned that whenever I get a raincheck for an UP item, its written with the post-UP price.  She told me that all the other stores in this area are writing rainchecks incorrectly.  Sigh.

I went out to the parking lot and called the 1-800 number for Rite Aid.  I spoke to a very nice gal in Customer Service who confirmed that I was correct and I held on the line while she called the store manager.  It was really loud in the parking lot so I headed back inside the store to wait.  I could hear the cashier saying - Ed, Corporate's on the line for you!  (picture me snickering)  After a couple minutes, she got back on the line to tell me she'd spoken to the manager and I could go back for my raincheck.  I thanked her and headed back to the registers.  The manager walked over to the cashier and was explaining how they should issue raincheck if I came back.  The cashier says - oh, she won't be back.  I walked right up and said "hi, I'm right here."  The look on her face - priceless!

She then walked to the body wash aisle with me and made me choose a particular variety of the Softsoap.  Me - "can't I get a raincheck for any variety within the sizes that are on sale?"  Cashier - "no, you have to choose one."  Oook, I picked the pomegranate variety, she ripped the UPC sticker off the shelf and went back to the front.  She scanned the tag and printed a raincheck from the register for that particular variety.  She even scanned my Wellness card and had that info on the raincheck too.  Anyone else's stores do this?  That was a first for me.

She wrote the raincheck for limit one, but the sale this week is limit four.  I asked to have the limit increased and she said to me - "we only write rainchecks for limit one."  Really, cuz you weren't so right about your policy earlier!  She called for the manager, we waited, she called again, we waited some more, she called again and then took the customer behind me.  The customer had a return so he needed the manager too.  Now the three of us waited, and waited, and waited.  He finally strolled back into the store (he was somewhere outside) and said it was fine for me to get four.  What a hassle!  I easily spent 20-25 minutes for a lousy raincheck.  At least I can get my free body wash!  The things I'll do for a deal....
