My sister and I did some shopping this afternoon. All the stores we went to were packed! We poked into Target and I got some ham & turkey for a Smirnoff NBPR rebate (DGUSA0135, Expires 12/31). You can get back $5 off a $5.01 purchase, $10 off a $10.01 purchase or $20 off a $20.01 purchase. I went for the gold:
  • 7 Hillshire Farms ham and turkey $3.29 each

After a delicious dinner with my family, I did one last Rite Aid trip. The last Tugaboos I'll get for free...I have many fond memories of the overage they gave me this year.

I now have $39.66 on my account and $30.74 on DBF's account towards the $100 needed to get my $20 Resolution Reward. With the Airwick deal next week, I should be able to put another $30 or so on each account. The promo is good until 1/22 so I'm not that worried about getting to $100.

How cute is this tree? As I was poking around the display, the most adorable little girl comes right up to me and goes "HI!!" I grinned and said hello back to her. Her mom was checking out the Valentine's Day decorations (yes you heard me, VALENTINES DAY!) in the same aisle and she carefully watched me as I chose my tree. She gave me a huge grin when I put it in my cart, so I assume she approved. So cute.

On DBF's card, I did basically the same thing. I didn't finish watching the Video Values on his account so I didn't have the $5 Darice coupon to use. Bummer
  • 4 BTS Wooden Rulers $0.79 each ($0.99 reg price, 20% Wellness discount) and got back two $2 UP's ($2 WYB 2, deal valid until 1/22) = $0.84 profit

  • Used $5 off $25 coupon, seventeen $1 UP's (that was fun), three $2 UP's and $5 UP, total was $3.82, overall profit $3.18
I've now spent $56 on Pantene, so I'm going to submit for a $20 rebate (WYB $50 of various P&G items including Pantene). I didn't include this in my calculations because I'm sending it to my sister's address in VA as an after-Christmas present.

Now a more advanced couponer might ponder, "frugalsuz, why didn't you split up your transactions to make better use of the soon-to-be-expired $5/$25 coupons?"

(frugalsuz chews her lip and stares off into space)

"Excellent question fellow hounder! I have a perfectly logical, mathematical reason to that quandary."

(nervous silence)

"Ok...I lied, I have no idea why I did that."

We all have our moments dear friends. It could be a combination of wanting to minimize my RiteAid trips for this week, the pressure of having seventeen $1 UP's expiring in a matter of days, feeling a cold coming on and a lack of sleep caused by the two jerks living downstairs who chose 5 am for yet another huge blowout fight involving yelling, screaming, stomping around, slamming doors and a dramatic exit somewhat hampered by a snowed in car. Nothing says "I'm leaving and never coming back!" like storming out to your car, slamming it into reverse and gunning it...only to get stuck in the snow, go forward six inches, back four, forward three, back seven, forward again five, back again...and we're out of the spot and driving off furiously! (he was back by the time I got home from work by the way)

On a happier note, FOAM MONKEYS! I sure as heck don't remember foam monkeys when I was growing up. All is right with the world again.

Let it Snow

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! I spent it with my hunny and the fam and had a great time. Today, we've got ourselves a blizzard here in good ol' Jersey. Its been snowing since noon and its not showing any sign of stopping. I think there's around eight to nine inches on the ground already. Before this all started, DBF and I did a couple errands. I'm waiting for my coupon order to come in the mail and then I'll be all over Rite Aid. In the meantime, I got my CVS shopping done for the week. I'm out of EB's on my old card and new card, so I just did this deal on DBF's card. I think I'll leave it at that for now and get back into CVS when the deals pick up again.
  • Tone Body Wash $3.88, used $1 coupon or here and got back $3 EB (Limit 1) = $0.12 profit
  • 2 CVS sponges $2.57 each, BOGO 50% off sale (on all CVS brand items) = $3.85 or $1.92 each
  • 2 Tostitos $2.49 each
  • Used $1 EB, $2.99 EB and $6.99 EB, total was $1.24

They Drew First Blood...

Today was our holiday party at work and we had our Secret Santa exchange. My person loved the holiday decorations I bought at CVS - excellent! A couple folks within my department also exchanged presents. Along with a couple other goodies, I got my department some scratch off lotto tickets and one woman won $24! My coworker bought me this beautiful ornament from HSN. Part of the proceeds go to benefit St. Jude Childrens' Hospital and each ornament was designed by a celebrity. Guess who designed the one she bought me?
RAMBO!!! Isn't it adorable? I turned it around, expecting a grenade or machine gun to be on the back but no dice.
Rite Aid - UPDATE - the third $5 UP is limit 1 only. I bought four more today (12/24) and wasn't sure why I didn't get the UP but that's the reason.
  • Motrin PM (20 ct.) $4.79 (reg price $5.99, got 20% discount), used $2 circular coupon, $2 coupon (11/22 SS or Sept. All You magazine) and got back $3 UP = $2.21 profit
  • 4 L'oreal Go Clean 360 Facial Cleansers $6.69 each, BOGO 50% off so $20.07, used two $3 off 2 coupons (10/24 RP) and got back three $5 UP's ($5 WYB 2, third $5 UP is a mystery one) = $0.93 profit - another deal I stole from A Super Savvy Saver :)
  • 2 Tugaboos $0.79 each ($0.99 reg price, 20% Wellness discount), used two $1 coupons (found inside package) = $0.42 profit
  • 4 Reeses Big Cups $0.50 each, used two BOGO coupons (12/12 SS) and got back $1 UP (WYB 4) = FREE
  • Acne Free Terminator $4.49 ($5.99 reg. price, 25% sale), used $1 coupon (10/17 RP) and got back $3 UP = $0.49 each
  • Used $5 off $25 coupon (this scanned as a penny again! they manually put in $5), two $5 UP's and $3 UP, total was $2.11, overall profit $6.89
At another store, I bought:
  • Motrin PM (20 ct.) $4.79 (reg price $5.99, got 20% discount), used $2 circular coupon, $2 coupon (11/22 SS or Sept. All You magazine) and got back $3 UP = $2.21 profit
  • 4 L'oreal Go Clean 360 Facial Cleansers $6.69 each, BOGO 50% off so $20.07, used two $3 off 2 coupons (10/24 RP) and got back three $5 UP's ($5 WYB 2, third $5 UP is a mystery one) = $0.93 profit
  • Rose Pick Up Sticks $1.94 ($2.59 reg price, 25% sale), got back $2 UP = $0.06 profit
  • 4 Reeses Big Cups $0.50 each, used two BOGO coupons (12/12 SS) and got back $1 UP (WYB 4) = FREE
  • Used three $5 UP's and two $1 UP's, total was $2.47, overall profit $1.53
The $5/$25 coupon I had with me in this store expired in November! I was pretty ticked at myself for not bringing a newer one with me, but I still made a profit so that's cool.

ShopRite
  • 3 Rayovac Batteries $1.49 each
  • 3 Hillshire Farms Hearty Slices Ham $3.99, used three $0.55 peelie coupons and will submit for $6 Budweiser NBPR rebate on $10 of turkey, ham or deli platters = $2.67 for all three
  • Used three $2.50 catalinas (WYB toys, batteries or appliances), total was $5.91
I knew the third cat wouldn't scan because it printed really lightly. The self-checkout cashier attempted to put it in manually and it was giving her some error message. So she tells me that the store changed their policy to only allow two $2.50 cats per order. When I told her that I'd successfully used four of the same cats last night without a problem, she said that the policy changed mid-week just with the cats "that have a newer expiration date." Umm, yeah no, that's a load of you-know-what. She said I could void one of my items off my order and purchase it separately and started to pull things out of my bag. I said "no thank you, I'd like to use all three cats at once since your own coupon policy states you can use four of the same coupons per order." She said she needed to help another customer "real quick" and walked away! I was left standing there (with my mouth open in surprise) until she finally called over a manager who promptly scanned the cat in properly. So irritating. I cannot stand it when cashiers make up rules for why things aren't working. I'd respect them a hell of a lot more if they just said "hmm, that's weird, I don't know why that's not working." Is that so hard?

ITS SO FLUFFY!

I'm gonna die!! Agnes is so friggin cute! I was debating whether or not I wanted to get Despicable Me and then saw the deal at CVS this week. I have a bunch of soon to be expiring EB's so I figured I'd pick up a copy. DBF and I saw DM in a nearly empty theater with a dad and his two little kids. We laughed harder than the kids did! If you haven't seen it, its definitely worth watching. I dare you not to crack up at the minions! I can't get enough of their laughs.
  • $15 iTunes gift card
  • Despicable Me DVD $9.99 (only at this price when you buy a $15 iTunes gift card)
  • $10 CVS gift card

RIP $5/$25

Rite Aid - looks like the $5/$25 coupon is officially dead. Rest in peace dear friend, how I have enjoyed our time together! I'm not going to list out each transaction that I did today because the deals are pretty straightforward. Plus there's no need to lump your purchases together to hit $25. Sigh.
  • 2 RA/Office Expert Tapes (Invisible or Gift) $1.49 each, BOGO sale and got back two $1 UP's (one for each) = $0.51 profit
Bought 38 of these in total over a variety of stores. I was taxed $0.10 for every pair, so all in all, I made $7.79 profit. Be sure to check the gift wrap and holiday aisles for these. Every store I went to was out of them in the office supply aisle, but I was able to find tons in these other spots.

A couple stores also had more Ecotools items - hoorah! Here's the deal for those:
  • Ecotools Bath Care and Accessories $1.99 each, BOGO 50% off sale and got back $5 UP (WYB 2) = $2.02 profit
I was looking for the puzzles and figurines deals, but didn't find any. You can see some pics on Erica's site. Basically, they're $0.99 regular price, so less with your Wellness discount and you get back $2 UP for each. But they're one of those items that not every store gets and the ones that have them usually have limited quantities. I hope you're able to find some!

ShopRite
  • 2 JCP $50 gift cards, got back $10 catalina (WYB $100 in select gift cards) = $10 profit *Will use this towards $10 Coors NBPR rebate on gift cards (min. $50 purchase) = $20 profit

Separately:
  • Apples $1.29/lb - $3.52
  • Breakstone sour cream $0.99
  • Used two $2.50 cats (second one had to be put in manually), total was $0.43
Then I bought:
  • Ground beef $3.24
  • Russet potatoes $1.99
  • Breakstone sour cream $0.99
  • Alouette Baby Brie $7.99, used $1 coupon (11/7 SS) and Alouette spreadable cheese $3.49, used $0.75 coupon (11/7 SS) - will use these towards $6 Michelob NBPR rebate when you spend $10 on cheese
  • Used two $2.50 cats and $10 cat, total was $0.10 after $0.10 bag discount

Not Very Flattering

What self respecting cat sits like this? Oh wait...
...that's right - its Monday. Yup, definitely Monday.
Rite Aid - my card:
  • 2 Tugaboos $0.79 each ($0.99 reg price, 20% Wellness discount), used two $1 coupons (found inside package) = $0.42 profit
  • 4 Airwick Freshmatic Kits $12.99 (fresh scent) and $13.99 each (lavender) and 2 Airwick Candles $5.99 each, BOGO sale, used four $4 freshmatic coupons and two $3 candle coupons (11/14 SS) and got back three $3 UP's ($3 UP WYB $10, the free ones don't count towards your total spent) = $1.97
  • Used $5 off $25 coupon, $1 UP and two $2 UP's, total was $2.51, overall profit $1.49
DBF's card:
  • 4 Revlon Emery Boards (12 ct.) $0.75 each (40% off sale), used $3 RA coupon, will get back $1 (SCR #62) and got back two $2 UPs ($2 WYB 2) = $5 profit
  • 2 Ecotools Bath Care and Accessories $2.99 and $1.99, BOGO 50% off sale, got back $5 UP (WYB 2) = $1.02 profit
  • 2 RA envelopes $2.29 each, BOGO sale, got back two $1 UP's = $0.29
  • Thomas English Muffins $1.99
  • Super secret Christmas present ~$17
  • Used $5 off $25 coupon, $10 UP and three $2 UP's, total was $2.28
This store was encountering some kind of system error while I was there. FUN! My UP's wouldn't scan, you could only pay with cash and no UP's would print. They ended up giving me my UP's as cash instead (fine by me!). And, my $5/$25 coupon only scanned as $0.01. I'd heard about this happening so I wasn't entirely surprised. The cashier called over one of the rudest managers I've ever seen. They conferred about my subtotal for the longest time and finally deduced that it was scanning for a penny because the cashier scanned my $3 Revlon coupon first. Yeah ok, that makes sense. They tried scanning it again (another penny discount) and then finally entered it manually for $5. As I was waiting in line, the manager was ringing up other people and talking to someone on the phone in the back office. He literally slammed the phone at one point. Very nice behavior to display in front of your customers, huh?

Finally, on my card:
  • 4 Revlon Emery Boards (12 ct.) $0.75 each (40% off sale), used $3 RA coupon, will get back $1 (SCR #62) and got back two $2 UPs ($2 WYB 2) = $5 profit
  • 2 Ecotools Bath Care and Accessories $2.99 and $1.99, BOGO 50% off sale, got back $5 UP (WYB 2) = $1.02 profit
  • 2 Lays chips $2.63 each (reg. $3.29, 20% Wellness discount), will submit for $5 Kona NBPR rebate = $0.26 *Thought these would be $2.50 each with a $1 UP, but the sale must have excluded the kettle chips
  • 2 Velveeta $1.99 each, got back two $1 UPs = $1.98 or $0.99 each
  • Used $3/$15 coupon (emailed to me from RA) and five $2 UPs, total was $0.62, overall profit $6.38
Pathmark - haven't been here in ages! I saw this deal online today and thought it would be great to combine with a Michelob NBPR rebate on gourmet cheese (among other things). Think I can squeak by with Cracker Barrel as gourmet?
  • 6 Cracker Barrel cheeses $1.99 each (shelf price $5.29 each), got back $10 catalina (for spending $30, based on shelf prices) = $1.94
Will try for the Michelob rebate ($6 when you spend $10), which would make this deal a $4.06 profit.

Loooooofah!

Rite Aid - my card. The $1.99 Ecotools items are hard to find. I went to five different stores today that had none at all. This deal is a bit of a scavenger hunt, but its worth it.

  • 4 Airwick Candles $5.99, BOGO sale, used four $3 coupons (11/14 SS) and got back $3 UP (WYB $10, the free ones don't count towards your total spent) = $3.02 profit

  • Used $5 off $25 coupon, $10 UP and two $2 UP's, total was $2.41, overall profit $17.59
DBF's card:
  • 10 Ecotools Bath Care and Accessories $1.99 each, BOGO 50% off sale so half were $0.99, got back $5 UP for every two I bought = $10.10 profit
  • 4 Airwick Candles $5.99, BOGO sale, used four $3 coupons (11/14 SS) and got back $3 UP (WYB $10, the free ones don't count towards your total spent) = $3.02 profit

Free Wrapping and Tissue Paper

DEAD DEAL - the tissue and wrapping paper are no longer producing RR's.
I got a mini Christmas tree! I used to have a six foot one, but the box got all moldy in my garage and I ended up tossing it. I picked this cutie up at CVS today:
  • 4 foot pre-lit tree $29.99
  • Used $5/$20 of decorations coupon and $10 off Christmas trees ($29.99+) - both were coupons from the scanner. I paid with EB's and I'll submit for a second $15 Heineken NBPR rebate on $20 of trees or decorations.
Walgreens - did this transaction twice
  • 6 Hallmark tissue papers (20 sheets) three for $1 with in-circular coupon, got back $5 RR (WYB 6 Hallmark items) = $3 profit *This RR deal isn't advertised as including the tissue paper but it is working
  • Reynolds Foil (25 foot) $0.79 with in-circular coupon *Coupon says its for the 20 foot package but none of the stores I went to today even carried that size. It worked fine on the 25 ft. boxes
  • Used $2.50 RR, total was $0.49
Did once with two foils and used $3 RR, total was $0.83

Separately, I bought:
  • 2 Hallmark Color Studio Wrapping Paper (50 ft) $1.99, BOGO sale, got back $2 RR (WYB 2 Hallmark items, another hidden deal) = FREE
  • Total was $2.13
There's a $0.50 WAG coupon for wrapping paper here. I plan to pick up a bunch more of these tomorrow.

Have You Heard the News?

Rite Aid's Gift of Savings program seems to be working like it did last year! Instead of just counting your out of pocket expense, it seems to be calculating based on the value of your items. I just cleared $20 on both accounts! Looks like you can't request your check until 12/12 though. What a nice surprise.

Super Cheap Decorations

CVS - really excited about this deal! I got a coupon for $5 off a $20 purchase of holiday decorations on each of my cards. We're doing a Secret Santa at work and the gal I picked said she wanted holiday decorations - perfect! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, today on ebay I found a Heineken NBPR rebate for $15 when you buy $20 of Christmas trees or decorations (HUSA8276). This makes my purchase almost totally free! I bought the red and silver mini tree for me and the snowmen for my Secret Santa. I'm going to pick up some other goodies for her on my other cards and submit for two more rebates, one at da boyfriend's address and one at my parents' address.
  • Shiny red and silver mini tree $14.99
  • Cuter than cute "Let it Snow" snowman sign $5.99
  • Used $5/$20 coupon, two $0.99 EB's, $4 EB and $9.99 EB, total was $1.20. Will submit for $15 Heineken rebate, which makes this transaction a cost of $2.17
Rite Aid - on DBF's card:
  • Garnier Nutrisse Hair Color $5.99, used $3 Nutrisse coupon (9/12 RP)
  • Garnier Herbashine Hair Color $5.99, used $2 Herbashine RA coupon (Nov. Video Values) and $3 Herbashine coupon (or 9/12 or 11/7 RP)
  • Garnier Anti-Dandruff Sham/Cond $3.33, used $2 Anti-Dandruff RA coupon (Nov. Video Values) and $1 sham/cond coupon (11/7 RP) *Look for these in a separate section of the sham/cond aisle. They were with the other dandruff care stuff, not with the other Garnier sham/cond.
  • Garnier Color Shield Sham/Cond $3, used $1 Color Shield RA coupon (Nov. Video Values), and $1 sham/cond coupon (11/7 RP)
  • Garnier Styler $3, used $1 styler coupon (11/7 RP)
  • 2 Garnier facial wipes or cleansers $4.71 each (reg price $6.29, 25% off sale), used $2 skincare RA coupon (Nov. Video Values) and two $2 skincare coupons (10/10 RP)
  • Used $5 off $25 coupon and $1 Video Values coupon off your purchase (Nov. Video Values), total was $6.39, got back $10 UP (for spending $30 on Garnier) and $5 UP from Maybelline - this one's a bit of a mystery and I'm not sure if anyone's figured out what triggers it. Overall profit $8.61
This brought me up to 20%!! Then at another store:
  • 2 Tugaboos $0.79 each ($0.99 reg price, 20% Wellness discount), used two $1 coupons (found inside package) = $0.42 profit
  • Chloraseptic Cherry, Menthol, Citrus or Grape Spray (6 oz), Max Spray (1 oz) or Grape Strips (40 ct.) $3.99, used $1 coupon (or 10/14 SS), got back $1 UP and will get back $2 (SCR #82) = FREE/$0.01 profit
  • 6 Photo Frames $2.50 each (reg price $5 each, 50% off sale), got back $2 UP for each = $3
  • Bufferin (130 ct.) $6.99, used $3 coupon (10/17 SS) and will get back $3 (SCR #76) = $0.99
  • Used $5 off $25 coupon, total was $17.26, overall profit $0.74
At a third store, I did two transactions on my card. I messed up the Garnier deal by getting a styler that wasn't included in the deal. It was a huge mess! I had a feeling something was wrong, but the Asst. Mgr. that was ringing me up said we'd total it out and figure out what the problem was. My total was higher than I thought and I didn't get the $10 UP. After much pondering and scanning stuff, she returned everything, I got one styler that was included and then she rang me up again. It took a long time and I could tell she was getting frustrated at the register, but it all worked out in the end. My Garnier deal was the same as above, and then I bought:
  • 8 Wet 'n Wild Nail Polishes $1.99 each, BOGO 50% sale, used $5 coupon (WYB $10, Sept. All You magazine - this beeped as expired by the way. Its good until 12/11 so the cashier put it through manually) and got back eight $1 UPs = $1.06 profit
  • 2 Tugaboos $0.79 each ($0.99 reg price, 20% Wellness discount), used two $1 coupons (cashier put in as $0.99 each, found inside package) = $0.40 profit
  • Chloraseptic Cherry Lozenges (18 ct.) or Max Berry Lozenges (15 ct.) $3.59 (reg price $3.99), used $1 coupon (or 10/14 SS), got back $1 UP and will get back $2 (SCR #81) = $0.41 profit
  • Bufferin (130 ct.) $6.99, used $3 coupon (10/17 SS) and will get back $3 (SCR #76) = $0.99
  • Used $5 off $25 coupon, total was $11.58, overall profit $5.42
All of these purchases will help up my total for the Gift of Savings program on each card.

Every Little Bit Helps

When I did my RA shopping yesterday, I was just concerned with getting da boyfriend's card up to the 20% discount level. I did a smaller transaction on mine since I'm already at 20% there. Well duh, I totally forgot about the Gift of Savings program! In case you haven't heard, its a bit different than last year and they're only counting your out of pocket expense towards your total. Major bummer, but with the Duracell MyGrids I bought (that's a month long deal by the way if you're looking for items to buy to help up your discount or GOS), I'm at $5 on each account already. I decided to go back for more frames on my card to help bring me up.
  • 10 Photo Frames $5 each, 50% off sale so they were $2.50 each, got back $2 UP for each = $5
  • 2 Tugaboos $0.79 each ($0.99 reg price, 10% Wellness discount), used two $1 coupons (found inside package) = $0.42 profit
  • Used $5 off $25 coupon, total was $20.98, overall cost of transaction = $0.98
This gives me another $20 towards the next level on the GOS. Without realizing it, I did the same thing for DBF's account yesterday. Maybe I'll do the Garnier deal this week too, if I feel like getting all my coupons in order that is. I'm just so sick of Rite Aid shopping! But who can pass up a moneymaker? Every little bit into my savings account helps. I better get my groove back soon, I really want some moneymaker loofahs next week! The stores I've been to in the past couple days only have one or two in stock, so I have a feeling I'm going to be running all over in search of these.

Rite Aid - did this transaction mainly to increase the points on DBF's card.  I'm still at 10% on this card and if I earn the 20% discount by 12/31, I keep the discount for all of next year.  I now have 12 points to go, which shouldn't be a problem.
  • 3 John Frieda Sham/Cond (trial sizes) $1.34 each ($1.49 reg price, 10% Wellness discount) and will get back $5 (SCR #58) = $0.98 profit
  • 2 Tugaboos $0.89 each ($0.99 reg price, 10% Wellness discount), used two $1 coupons (found inside package) = $0.22 profit
  • 8 Photo Frames four at $4.99 and four at $5 each, 50% off sale so $2.49 - $2.50 each, got back $2 UP for each = $3.96 (must buy frames starting at $4.99 to get the UP)
  • Used  $5 off $25 coupon, total was $20.09, overall profit $0.91
Then on my card, I bought:
  • 3 John Frieda Sham/Cond (trial sizes) $1.19 each ($1.49 reg price, 20% Wellness discount) and will get back $5 (SCR #58) = $1.43 profit
  • 2 Tugaboos $0.79 each ($0.99 reg price, 10% Wellness discount), used two $1 coupons (found inside package) = $0.42 profit
  • Total was $3.40
Walgreens
  • 6 packs Walgreens diapers $8.99 each, BOGO sale = $26.97
  • 2 No Nonsense knee highs $0.33 with in-circular coupon
  • Used $6 RR and seven $3 RR's, total was $0.64, got back $10 Jingle Cash for spending $50+ on merchandise.  This brings the cost of the diapers to $16.98 or $2.83 each.
The Jingle Cash is only valid from 12/12 - 12/18, so you can't roll it into more diapers.  And no, there's no bun in my oven folks.  :)  I am just stocking up for one day when I might need them.  Diapers are so pricey, so I don't see the harm in picking them up when I can get them for free or very cheap.  I had all the $3 RR's from the Natrol deal to use up so this was a great way to do it.
